THE PRIORITIES OF THE CYPRUS PRESIDENCY OF THE EU WITH A STRONG ECONOMIC FOOTPRINT

Filenews 22 December 2025

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) expressed its satisfaction with the presentation of the main priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as presented by Nicos Christodoulides. As he states, the priorities compose a coherent and realistic framework for strengthening the European economy and the EU's strategic position.

Strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy, with a focus on deepening the Single Marketsupporting businesses – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – attracting investment and reducing administrative and regulatory burdens is at the heart of the priorities. The CCCI points out that these guidelines directly reflect the needs of the European and Cypriot business community.

At the same time, the Cyprus Presidency sets as a key pillar the twin green and digital transitions, with a balanced approach that ensures sustainability and innovation, without undermining Europe's competitiveness and productive base. Linking technological progress to economic growth is emerging as a crucial element for the future of the Union.

At the geopolitical level, the priorities underscore Cyprus' role as a reliable and stable partner, aiming for a stronger, more resilient and strategically autonomous European Union. Particular emphasis is placed on stability in the wider region, the strengthening of international cooperation and enlargement policy, with an emphasis on the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

The CCCI reaffirms its commitment to actively support the Cyprus Presidency, contributing with evidence-based interventions and targeted initiatives that strengthen the role of entrepreneurship, promote European added value and ensure tangible benefits for the economy and society.

According to the CCCI, the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU is an opportunity for a Presidency of substance, cooperation and results, with a clear economic and development orientation.
