An enlightenment and policing campaign for the detection of alcohol in the exhalation of drivers and/or drugs in a saliva sample, starts tomorrow Monday 15/12/2025 and will last until next Sunday, December 21, 2025.
This campaign will be carried out simultaneously at the European level, in the context of the cooperation of the Police with the European Traffic Police Network Roadpol.
For the period 2022 – 2024, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as careless driving, were the main causes of fatal road collisions in Cyprus, at a rate of 23.3% and 21.4% respectively.
It is pointed out that a significant percentage of all road deaths caused on the roads of the European Union are demonstrably due to driving under the influence of alcohol, while as it is known, drug use contributes to the reduction of the mental and psychological effort exerted while driving, but also to the reduction of the driver's performance, increasing the risk of involvement in a road collision.
