Before the summer, two new municipal museums are expected to operate in the historic center of Paphos. One will be multi-thematic and will host collections of works of art and historical objects, while the second will be a museum of natural history and art, complementing the existing infrastructure of the city.
The total cost of the ongoing projects is close to two million euros and, based on the contracts, is expected to be completed in early June. The local authority hopes that Paphos will have two modern cultural spaces that will highlight cultural heritage and enhance its tourist and cultural role.
The mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phedonos, stated that the Georgios K. Tornaritis Museum of Natural History and Art will host exhibits from the descendants of Georgios Tornaritis. The Multi-Thematic Museum will host collections of works of art and objects of historical value from donations from citizens, such as Kyriakos Sophocleous (KYRSOF), as well as personal belongings of marathon runner Stelios Kyriakides.
In about a month, the work on the city's historical documentation center, which will be housed in the former Paphos police station, on central Kennedy Square, will be completed. At the same time, private individuals are investing in small hotel units, while the municipality is proceeding with the creation of student hostels through the renovation of buildings, with the aim of the shopping center operating 24 hours a day.
