PROPOSAL FOR A LAW ON MANDATORY LIGHT SIGNAGE ON VANS - 'VISIBILITY IS CONSIDERED CRITICAL TO THE PREVENTION OF ROAD ACCIDENTS'

 Filenews 12 December 2025

A bill has been submitted to the Parliament that introduces mandatory light signalling on vehicles carrying mobile photo-signalling devices for speed control. The regulation amends Article 12 of the current law and provides that every vehicle equipped with a mobile camera must have an activated light indicator on its roof.

The purpose of the change is to enhance road safety and prevent the risks identified by current practice. At the same time, the proposal ensures that speed checks are carried out in a transparent manner towards citizens and are not treated as a mechanism for collecting fines.

According to the justification of the bill, the visibility of mobile cameras is considered critical to prevent traffic accidents and ensure the proper functioning of controls. The institutional intervention aims to remedy a distortion that caused insecurity and reactions, without reducing the role of photo-marking in the fight against serious infringements.

The bill was submitted by the President of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, Stavros Papadouris, who stressed that transparency in audits is a prerequisite for their reliability and effectiveness. According to him, the discussion on improving the photo-marking framework must be done with seriousness, documentation and respect for the citizen.

The Ecologists Movement points out that it continues to promote substantial institutional interventions that enhance the security, trust and accessibility of public policies, with clear positions and concrete solutions.
