OLD TIMI-PAPHOS AIRPORT ROAD - BEING REGISTERED AND IMPROVED

Filenews 17 December 2025 - by Dora Christodoulou

Having now decided that the efforts for the completion of the new Airport-Paphos tourist area road will not bear fruit in the near future, the authorities of the province are also turning their attention to the improvement of the existing road to the airport, which is an infrastructure of past decades and does not offer the slightest facilitation to the current increased flow to the unit.

The issue is already on the agenda of Parliament's Committee on Transport, Communications and Works, whose members went on the spot a few months ago to examine the situation and plan their actions to improve the situation.

Speaking to "F", the member of the committee, Paphos MP of DIKO Chrysanthos Savvidis, said that the existing, old road that connects Paphos airport with Paphos through the community of Timi, will be upgraded immediately in order to meet even rudimentarily the current increased needs of tourism, but also road traffic in the area. In particular, he stressed, the study for the electrification of the existing road has already begun, while a master plan is also being promoted for its further improvement, but also its registration as a normal public road since it was found that for decades the road was not officially registered.

It is an immediate necessity to quickly promote the improvement works on this road axis, Mr. Savvides remarked, given that Paphos Airport has shown a huge increase in traffic in recent years and it is obvious to its users, but also to the residents of the communities in the area that the current condition of the road is anything but good for Paphos and its tourism.

We will push further in every direction for the improvement of this road, so that the extension of Paphos airport coincides at least with the noticeable improvement of the existing road.
