 Filenews 19 December 2025

The British Bases Command (BB) has put in place precautionary measures at the official crossing points in Pergamon and Strovilia, following reports of suspected cases of Foot-and-mouth Disease in the occupied territories.

At the request of the Veterinary Services of the Republic of Cyprus, the BB Administration installed disinfection facilities and suspended the transit of all products of animal origin.

The BB Management stated that these measures are aimed at reducing any potential risk and demonstrate its commitment to support its partners where possible.

Although the disease has not been confirmed, the measures are considered preventive, aimed at protecting animal health and the wider society, according to Mark Hartley, Head of the Customs and Immigration Department in the BB Regions.

As he stated: "We are taking immediate and responsible measures. In close cooperation with the Veterinary Services of the Republic of Cyprus, we are doing everything possible to support our partners and ensure the safety of all, while maintaining the smooth operation of the crossing points."
