The seven-day training program on "China – Cyprus: Modern Urban Development and Management", which took place in the cities of Beijing and Guangzhou, China, was completed with great success.
According to a relevant announcement, the program was organized by the Chinese government through the Embassy of China in Cyprus and the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, with the Academy for International Business Executives (AIBO) of the Ministry of Commerce of China as the implementing body.
The Cyprus mission was attended by 28 officials and senior executives of the Local Government, including the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous Mr. Yiotis Papachristofi, the Mayor of Akamas Mr. Marinos Lambrou, the Municipal Secretary of Polis Chrysochous Mrs. Doxa Oikonomidou and the Ass. Municipal Secretary of Akamas Mr. Pantelis Pantelidis.
As mentioned, the program was particularly rich in content and highly constructive as it included interesting lectures by experts and high-ranking technocrats of China, on-site visits to reference points, as well as meetings with local actors related to, sustainable urban development, waste management & recycling, the production of renewable energy sources, the protection and promotion of archaeological wealth and innovation and upgrading infrastructure in technology and culture centers.
The participation of local government leaders was a unique learning opportunity, added the announcement on the history, culture and civilization of China, but also to understand the strategy that led to the country's impressive path towards technological progress and international development.
At the same time, there was an excellent opportunity to strengthen relations and exchange experiences between Cypriot local authorities.
The program is the first bilateral training seminar between China and Cyprus and has contributed decisively to strengthening the knowledge of the local government executives of Cyprus, with the aim of providing better and better quality services to the citizens and upgrading the institution in general.
At the same time, it highlights the importance of international cooperation in critical areas for the future of our cities.
The Municipalities of Polis Chrysochous and Akamas express their warm and sincere thanks to the Chinese Government, the Embassy of China in Cyprus and the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, assuring that China's good practices will be used in the Cypriot Local Authorities and that the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries
