FROM A SILK FACTORY TO A MULTI-PURPOSE CULTURAL AND SPORTS VENUE IN GEROSKIPOU

 Pafos Live 28 December 2025

The historic site of the former KEN of Paphos in Geroskipou is planned to be transformed into a modern multi-purpose space for education, culture and sports, keeping the memory of the past alive and opening up prospects for future generations.

The local authority intends to use the space of the former KEN of Paphos in Geroskipou by creating infrastructure mainly for education and sports. The site is inextricably linked to the modern history of Cyprus since during the Second World War there was a silk factory in the area that manufactured parachutes for the needs of the allied forces fighting the Nazi axis.

Almost 30 thousand square meters of the huge space occupied by the former KEN of Paphos, in Geroskipou, now belong to the municipality of Ierokipia, which has prepared two studies on how to utilize both the open spaces and the historical buildings located there. In the first years of democracy and with the establishment of the National Guard, the space functioned as the first training center for recruits in the province of Paphos until 2016 when the new KEN in Anarita operated.
