Measures for foot-and-mouth disease continue to be taken in the occupied territories, with the press highlighting both the concerns and the measures themselves and the start of vaccinations.
"Dialong" with the title "Veterinary control is a prerequisite" writes that the "Ministry of Agriculture" and the "municipalities" are taking disinfection and prevention measures in livestock units and estates. Those who enter and leave them are disinfected, while some "municipalities" have put in place a restriction that the movement of animals will only be to slaughterhouses.
Experts, the newspaper writes, argue that this situation puts both livestock breeders - producers and butchers in a difficult position, while they believe that animals should be slaughtered only after veterinary control.
"Gounes" with the title "Let our citizens not worry" publishes statements by the "Minister of Agriculture", Hussein Çavuş about the measures taken and are being taken to deal with the disease. Mr. Tsavous said that with the detection of symptoms, the unit and the area in Lapathos, Famagusta, were immediately quarantined, the movement of animals stopped, disinfections were carried out and called on breeders and the public to faithfully follow the instructions and announcements. "There should be no concern about meat and milk," he said.
He said, 500,000 vaccinations will be given, 13,000 animals will be vaccinated per day and in three months they intend to have eradicated the disease.
The need for full implementation of the vaccination program to combat foot-and-mouth disease is mentioned in an article by Kipris Postasi, citing as an example the case of bluetongue, which appeared in the occupied territories a few years ago and started a vaccination program, which stopped after some time.
According to the publication, vaccination programs were halted to combat bluetongue disease, which came to the fore between November and September 2024. He recalls that in order to control the disease, a plan was drawn up in 2016 to vaccinate all goats and cattle against bluetongue disease.
Now, reports Kipris Postasi, the same situation has arisen for foot-and-mouth disease. Vaccination orders have been given, it is added, but vaccination is a systematic program and that if it is not continued consistently, no results will be achieved.
The website notes that a technical committee has been set up by all competent bodies and academics and since December 14 specific measures have been taken.
