ELECTROMOBILITY IS ON THE RISE IN TROODOS - CHARGING POINTS TO BE INSTALLED IN 57 COMMUNITES

Filenews 27 December 2025 - by Vassos Vassiliou

Literally, electromobility is on the rise in Troodos if we take into account that the way has been opened for the installation of 58 charging points in 57 communities. For the installation of the 58 points, a tender had been announced by the Institute for Research and Development of Mediterranean Mountainous Areas and when the time came to award the tender, an appeal was filed before the Tender Review Authority. A company that lost the bid asked the Review Authority to issue "Interim Measures" which would prevent the continuation of the process. Eventually, the company that lost the bid withdrew its appeal.

The tender concerns "the supply and installation of equipment for 58 electric vehicle charging stations in 57 villages in the wider Troodos region, as well as the supply, installation, technical support and management of their operating software, including training in their use".

With the installation of the 58 points, the residents of the 57 communities are given the opportunity to gain access to their area while also helping travellers to charge their electric vehicles if necessary, so there is no risk of them being trapped.

As it is known, the government has announced a plan to install 1,000 charging points for electric vehicles.

The incentives provided by the Scheme are in the form of financial aid for charging points that will be publicly installed by local authorities, private businesses, organizations and other operators for the purpose of recharging or refuelling, in parking lots for public use, municipal and community parking lots, private parking lots as well as oil station areas.

The Plan is planned to be implemented in two phases, with a budget of   €3.7 million.

As "F" has already written, of the 203,000 vehicles, of all types, registered in the period 2020-2024, only 4,859 were electric. Especially in saloons, out of 159,078 registered in the same period, only 3,234 were electric.

It is noted that in Cyprus there are more than 700,000 cars plus about 61,000 motorcycles.
