Filenews 13 December 2025
The Police remind the public that the unhindered and immediate passage of ambulances is an absolute priority, as any delay can put human lives at serious risk.
It has been observed that some drivers are reluctant to give priority to ambulances, especially when they are stationary at controlled intersections with photo-marking cameras.
It is clarified that:
When an ambulance with the lights and siren activated approaches an intersection, the drivers of the vehicles in front are allowed to move forward, even if this involves violating a red light or a continuous white line.
In such cases, no out-of-court complaints are issued.
Clear instructions have been given to the contractor company that manages the photo-marking system to check all relevant records and not to transmit complaints when it comes to facilitating emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks, patrol cars).
In the event that a citizen may receive an out-of-court notice while giving priority to an ambulance, he/she is invited to contact the contractor company at tel. 80008009, any working day between 08:00 – 17:00, so that an immediate cancellation can be made, after a relevant check by the Police – Traffic Department of the Headquarters.
The Police calls on all drivers to demonstrate understanding and responsibility, giving immediate priority to all emergency vehicles. Every second can judge a human life. Let us all contribute, with sensitivity and cooperation, so that the aid reaches those who need it in a timely manner.
