The Police arrested a 19-year-old man today, as part of an investigation into a case of attempted murder and robbery, committed on December 20, 2025 in the province of Nicosia.
According to the complaint, an 85-year-old man stated that while he was at his home, an unknown person broke into and entered the house, attacked him and then took a sum of money.
The 85-year-old is still hospitalized in serious condition at Nicosia General Hospital, while Police investigations continue to fully clarify the case.

Police searches have been underway since Wednesday morning in a house in Paralimni, related to the environment of a businessman, who in the summer became the target of two other criminal actions. It is noted that the shots that hit the house were fired yesterday at 4:30 in the morning while its owners were inside it, however, no complaint was made to the Police, who received information about the criminal act hours later.
Specifically, the Police received the information at 5:30 on Tuesday afternoon and reported that unknown persons fired shots at a house in Paralimni, which is related to a person close to the businessman. Members of the Famagusta Police Department rushed to the scene, who found that the shots hit the outer wall of the façade of the house. The scene was cordoned off and the investigations began with the first light of day by the Famagusta Police Department and the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters.

It is noted that on July 26, a defensive grenade was found in a busy premises maintained by the businessman in Ayia Napa, after warning phone calls to the Police and a television station. The place, which was packed with people, had been evacuated.
On August 17, moreover, unknown persons warned again about the existence of an explosive device in the same area, which was evacuated and searches were carried out without finding anything. The motives of the perpetrators, who were not identified, were then estimated to be related to financial differences. The investigators of the TAE Famagusta are investigating whether the shootings in the house are also related to the criminal actions of the summer. To identify the perpetrators, testimonies from neighbours, as well as from closed surveillance circuits are being sought.

The dynamic and targeted preventive operations of the Police continued during last night, with an enhanced presence in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
As part of these operations, the Police proceeded to arrest a total of four persons.
Specifically, one person was arrested for illegal stay on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, one person was arrested for warrants, while two other persons were arrested for an investigated case of attempted destruction of property with explosives.
During the same night, 25 inspections of premises were also carried out, with the aim of preventing and suppressing delinquent behaviours.
As far as the road network is concerned, more than 300 inspections were carried out, from which 66 traffic complaints emerged.
At the same time, as part of the investigation of traffic offenses, a vehicle was detained for further examinations.
Operations continue in a broad, continuous and strengthened preventive plan of the Police, with increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces, with the aim of preventing crime and strengthening the sense of security of citizens.

A second case of attempted destruction of property in Limassol is to be investigated, after yesterday's arrest of a 44-year-old man, in connection with a similar type of case. For the new case, a second person was arrested to facilitate the investigations.
The case was reported at noon on December 25, 2025, at the TAE Limassol, by a café owner. According to the complainant, in the early hours of the same day, an unknown person placed unknown objects outside his cafeteria, which he received a few hours later. Police examinations revealed that the objects placed by the unknown person were an explosive device and a jerry can with flammable material.
As part of the examinations, testimony was obtained against the 44-year-old, who has been in custody, since yesterday, for a similar case. An arrest warrant was issued against him under which he was re-arrested, to facilitate investigations.
At the same time, the investigation of the case also revealed testimony against a 36-year-old man, who was also arrested, by virtue of a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
