The local community of Paphos remains deeply shocked after the tragic death of 23-year-old Petko Svetlozar, who lost his life on Sunday afternoon in a traffic collision at the traffic light intersection of Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue and Andrea Vlamis Street.

The accident occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m., when the motorcycle driven by the 23-year-old collided, under circumstances that are being investigated, with a car driven by a 41-year-old man with a 45-year-old female passenger. The young man was rushed to Paphos General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The 45-year-old female passenger was discharged after tests.

The incident has caused intense public outrage and anger, mainly due to the information that emerged about the driver of the vehicle. The 41-year-old was arrested both for the fatal collision and for the fact that he had been illegally in Cyprus since September 2024, while working in agricultural work, despite the expiration of his residence permit.

Further concern is the fact that, although the driver tested negative for alcohol, he tested positive for drugs in a preliminary drug test, even in broad daylight. Samples were taken from the 41-year-old for a final laboratory drug test.

Citizens are expressing anger and concern about how a person without a valid residence permit and under the influence of drugs could freely move on the roads, resulting in such a tragic loss.

The Paphos Traffic Police Department is continuing its examinations to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal collision.

Filenews

It was reported yesterday to the Limassol Police Department by a 35-year-old owner of a company which is registered abroad but maintains an office in Limassol, that his company was the victim of online fraud, resulting in the extraction of the total amount of money, €1,200,000.

This company had entered into an agreement with an investment company where, as part of the cooperation, the complaining company made during November and December, 2025, two transfers for the amounts of €900,000 and €300,000 to an account that had been indicated through emails that appeared to come from the investment company.

An audit carried out by the complaining company revealed that the company's email was compromised, resulting in it receiving fraudulent messages. The two remittances appear to have been transferred to a fraudulent account and not to the investment company's account.

It does not seem to be proven - with the existing data and testimonies - the murder, and even premeditated, with the victim being a 35-year-old Egyptian and the alleged perpetrator being a 30-year-old Greek Cypriot from Paphos.

The Police investigations so far, combined with the autopsy on the victim's body, show anything but murder. That is why today the 30-year-old returned back to the Central Prison from the police detention center where he was, after the eight-day detention order expired. The Police suggested to the Legal Service to proceed with the registration of the case with charges related to acts that could cause death, however, the instructions were different.

If the crime of murder is not supported by evidence, then instructions were given for the suspect to be released and returned to prison to serve the rest of his sentence, pending the results of scientific analyses from histopathological samples.

The results are expected from Greece and while there was information that they could be ready even today, it seems that this has changed and they will be ready in about two weeks. In view of this development, the case file remains open and its outcome will now be determined by the results of the histopathological examinations.

As Filenews is informed, so far the murder has not been proven and the causes of death of the 35-year-old remain to be determined. If no substances are found in his body that refer to other causes, then it is possible that a file will be formed for the 30-year-old in connection with the attack and causing bodily harm to the Egyptian. This is a given since the 30-year-old himself has admitted that he punched him under the eye and explained the reason he got into an argument with him. However, according to him, he had no intention of killing him or motive.

According to what Filenews had recorded from the first moment, the Egyptian after receiving the punch was moving normally and for several minutes he tried to escape from the prison guards and go to find the 30-year-old to return the punch. At some point, however, he collapsed and despite efforts he did not come back. The autopsy on his body showed neither internal bleeding nor cardiac arrest that could be attributed to the blow, which is why other causes are being sought.

In the meantime, the examinations of the TAE of Nicosia continue regarding the death of the 23-year-old Syrian in his cell, which is attributed to suicide. Investigators continue to take statements about the young man's environment, while a death investigation will be carried out at a later stage.
