Yesterday around 4:00 in the afternoon, while a 39-year-old man was driving his vehicle on Oceanidon Street in Limassol with a 50-year-old passenger, he lost control of his vehicle, as a result of which he crashed into a parked vehicle, in which a 47-year-old person was.
Due to the collision, the first vehicle overturned on the asphalt while the 50-year-old passenger was slightly injured and was transported by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where after receiving first aid, he was released.
In a preliminary alcohol test to which the 39-year-old was subjected, he was found positive with an indication of 142μg% instead of 22μg%, which is the limit allowed by law.
Subsequently, he underwent a final alcohol test with a reading of 127μg% instead of 22μg% and was arrested for a flagrante delicto and taken into custody. He is expected to be charged in writing for the traffic offenses he committed within the day and then to be released, to be summoned at a later stage before a court.

The Police responded last night to various incidents, which were recorded in areas of the districts of Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca.
During the incidents, illegal gatherings of young people, causing malicious damage, as well as throwing improvised explosive devices, firecrackers and stones at members of the Police were observed.
As part of the investigation of the cases, the Police proceeded to arrest a total of seven persons.
Specifically, in the Limassol district, five persons (four minors) were arrested, while in the Larnaca district, two adults were arrested.
The offences being investigated in connection with the arrests include, inter alia, conspiracy to commit a felony and a misdemeanor, rioting, disturbing the peace, causing malicious damage, possession of offensive instruments and insulting a police officer.
As for the two adults, a case of possession of drugs is being investigated against them.
During the night, incidents of fire in garbage cans, tyres, gazebos and dry vegetation were recorded, as well as malicious damage.
In addition, three official Police vehicles were damaged by stone-throwing.
The examinations continue.

The Police arrested a 60-year-old man, as part of an investigation of a case of fraud and extortion of a large amount of money, via the internet.
According to the data under investigation, a 49-year-old man, after online communication with unknown persons, who convinced him to invest sums of money, was deceived, as a result of which the perpetrators extorted a sum of money amounting to €24,440.
The 49-year-old filed a complaint with the Nicosia Police Department. After the perpetrators later attempted to extort further money from the 49-year-old, calling him to pay an amount of €13,100, in order to return the alleged profits that his investments yielded, the 49-year-old informed the Police about it.
From the examinations that followed and after a police operation carried out yesterday by members of the Nicosia Police Department in collaboration with the 49-year-old complainant, evidence emerged against the 60-year-old suspect. He was arrested yesterday, with a court arrest warrant and was taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case.

The eight defendants in the case of the Central Prison documents found in the house of the Chief Warden were referred to a direct trial that will meet before the Criminal Court on January 30, 2026.
This is what the Nicosia District Court decided today.
At the request of the Prosecuting Authority, the defendants were released until the trial, with personal bail of €50,000 each.
Among the accused are the former director of the Central Prisons, Anna Aristotelous, the former deputy director Athena Demetriou, 5 members of the penitentiary and a former member and current police officer.
The indictment includes offenses such as conspiracy to commit felonies, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, abuse of power, violation of official secrecy, offences in violation of the Personal Data Processing Law, theft from public officials, violation of the security rules of classified documents and illegal possession of property.
The documents were located on April 10, 2025 at the home of the Chief Guard. They comprised 48,430 documents, consisting of 250,464 pages.
During the referral process, Ms. Aristotelous' lawyer, Christos Triantaphyllides, asked the Prosecuting Authority to give the witness material in printed form, due to the insurmountable cost of printing it.
The representative of the Prosecuting Authority stated that there is no such obligation and asked Mr. Triantafyllidis to submit his request to the Attorney General.

A new tragedy on the asphalt with the victim being 23-year-old Petko Svetlozar, from Bulgaria, a permanent resident of Cyprus.
The road collision of the car and the motorcycle occurred shortly after 12:30 on a road in Paphos.
According to the Police, the fatal collision of the 23-year-old's large-capacity motorcycle took place on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue, under circumstances that are being investigated.
The unfortunate young man was seriously injured and was transported by ambulance that was called to the scene to Paphos Hospital, where despite the efforts of the doctors on duty, he expired a short time later.
As part of the police investigations into the circumstances under which the fatal road collision occurred, the 41-year-old driver of the car involved was arrested by the members of the Police, pursuant to a court arrest warrant.
At the same time, the 41-year-old was also arrested in connection with a case of illegal stay in the territory of the Republic.
The 41-year-old underwent a driving test under the influence of alcohol with a negative result, while he was found positive in a preliminary test for driving under the influence of drugs. Samples were taken from him for a final laboratory drug test.
The Paphos Traffic Department continues the examinations.
