 Pafos Live 10 December 2025

A series of actions aimed at empowering young men and women from all over Cyprus to protect and safeguard the natural heritage of the island included the Environmental Caretakers project that was completed on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

According to an announcement by Terra Cypria, "through this project, young men and women from all over Cyprus gained a strong framework of participation, knowledge and action, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for all communities on the island".

"Over the past twelve months, the project has managed to mobilize young Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, turning them into active citizens who protect the environment," it added.

Specifically, through 13 workshops and educational material developed specifically for the program, participants learned to recognize, record and report environmental issues, such as pollution, biodiversity loss, climate change and urban mobility problems."

The project has contributed to the creation of a growing network of informed, active and sensitized young people, while strengthening inter-communal cooperation and shared environmental awareness, it is added.

At the final event, the new digital application Environmental Caretakers App was also presented, a geospatial recording platform that allows users to report environmental incidents throughout Cyprus.

The app enables the recording of topics such as wildfires, animal welfare incidents, pollution, alien species, and other environmental threats, enhancing monitoring and response across the island.

"The Environmental Caretakers project is implemented by Terra Cypria – The Cyprus Foundation for Environmental Protection and Taşkent Doğa Parkı, empowering youth through education, collaboration and practical engagement" it is stated while noting that it is funded by the European Climate Foundation and implemented in collaboration with UNDP Cyprus and OSASG-Cyprus.
