"AMALTHEA" - NEW HUMANITARIAN AID FOR GAZA ARRIVES TODAY AT THE PORT OF ASHDOD

 Filenews 20 December 2025

The new humanitarian aid shipment for Gaza is expected to arrive at the port of Ashdod today, Saturday, through the "Amalthea" sea corridor, the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, Victor Papadopoulos, told KYPE.

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, had announced, in the early hours of Friday, from Brussels, the new shipment of humanitarian aid, stating that "950 tons of humanitarian aid, 44 containers from the Republic of Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, France, Slovakia and Kuwait" will be included in the mission.

Answering a question from KYPE, Mr. Papadopoulos said that humanitarian aid includes food and hygiene items. The mission is being carried out in coordination with the UN/UNOPS, the United Arab Emirates and in cooperation with other states, such as France and Kuwait, and international humanitarian organizations, such as World Central Kitchen.

This is the fifth route from August to December, noted Mr. Papadopoulos, stating that this aid comes in addition to the 4,000 tons that have been sent since August. "In total, the volume of aid that has been transferred to Gaza since the activation of the plan in March 2024 amounts to 30.000 tons," he noted.

He added that more routes are expected in January, as there is increased interest in utilizing the Amalthea Plan and the flow of aid is enhanced.

"There is an understanding with the Israeli government so that the shipment can go directly to the port of Ashdod," he noted, stating that the aid is expected to arrive and unload today.

In a post by the organization World Central Kitchen, which operates in Gaza, it is stated that they are working together with the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and the UN Office for Program Services (UNOPS).

The organization expressed its gratitude for the humanitarian aid arriving in Gaza through the "Amalthea" sea corridor. As she notes, this route from Cyprus allows for the delivery of hundreds of tons of basic food items, such as flour, pasta, rice and more, supporting the organization's network of kitchens across Gaza and ensuring that its teams can provide millions more meals to families in need.
