A new yellow warning for strong storms, hail and winds has been issued by the Department of Meteorology. The warning went into effect at 3:00 am and will last until 5:00 pm on Thursday.
As reported, isolated strong storms are expected to affect the island from time to time, initially in the morning hours on the west, north and south coasts and progressively and especially after noon the mountains, the interior and the east.
Hail is likely to fall in a storm, while the winds will change and strengthen. The intensity of the rain is expected to be between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, according to the warning.
Weak low pressure and unstable weather conditions are affecting the area, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Today the weather will be mostly cloudy at times and local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Hail is expected to fall in a storm. In mountainous and inland areas, the phenomena may be intense, especially after noon. Winds will initially be variable, light, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become southwest to northwest and in the east northeast light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. In a storm, however, the winds may change and strengthen. The sea will be calm to a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 24 degrees inland, on the west and north coasts, around 26 on the south and east coasts and around 16 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight the weather will be mostly cloudy at times and isolated rains or even a storm are possible, mainly in coastal areas. Winds will be mainly northwest to northeast and locally variable, light, 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little rough. The temperature will drop to around 12 degrees inland, around 15 on the coast and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Friday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, but later increased clouds are expected to give local rains and an isolated storm, mainly in the mountains and in the southern areas of the island.
At the weekend the weather will be generally mostly clear, however on Saturday in the afternoon hours there is likely to be isolated rain, mainly in the southern areas of Troodos.
The temperature until Saturday will gradually drop to fluctuate close to and slightly below the average climatic values of the season. No significant change is expected on Sunday.
