VACCINATIONS FOR FLU AND COVID 19 IN PROGRESS - Paphos General Hospital - Friday morning only

 Filenews 13 November 2025

Influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which hits young children and the elderly the most, have already made their appearance in most European states, with the European Center for Infection Control (ECDC) emphasizing in its latest report that already last week the number of cases began to show a gradual but steady increase.

In Cyprus, personal doctors have not yet begun to record an increased number of cases, however, as they point out, seasonal infections usually appear in our population a week or two later, than in more northern European countries.

According to the ECDC, respiratory syncytial virus is experiencing an increase in circulation, mainly in children under five years of age. The positivity rates in the samples amount to 6-8%, while seasonal activity has already started in countries of central and northern Europe.

The ECDC predicts that the peak of activity will occur in late November to early December.

Flu activity, last week, showed positivity rates, below 10%, however there is a gradual increase in positive samples, mainly in children under 15 years of age.

Most reports come from northern and western European countries, while hospitalizations due to influenza remain, for the time being, at low levels.

With regard to COVID-19, the ECDC points out that its circulation remains extensive but is steadily decreasing compared to previous weeks.

''The elderly and vulnerable groups continue to be at the greatest risk of severe disease, with the ECDC recommending a boost in vaccination ahead of winter."

The ECDC, in its relevant report, emphasizes the importance of "continuous surveillance, especially for children and the elderly, in order to ensure timely treatment of a possible outbreak".

It is recalled that the vaccination process is underway in Cyprus, both for influenza and COVID-19, as well as for RSV.

Vaccinations are carried out by personal doctors for adults and children but also in the vaccination centers operated by the Ministry of Health in all cities.

Paphos - Paphos General Hospital - Friday only 8am-2pm - please ensure you take photo ID and any vaccination cards with you.
