A planned tree planting by the Jewish Community of Cyprus in honour of US President Donald Trump, caused reactions in Larnaca, while sources within the Municipality of the city emphasize that the organizers did not inform about the purpose of the event.
According to an announcement from the Jewish Community of Cyprus, the planting of the 48 trees – described as "symbols of life and hope" – is scheduled for Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., on Ioannis Kakrides Street, near the Vergina High School.
The event, according to the organizers, is being held "in honour of US President Donald Trump who caused the release of Israeli hostages and the signing of the peace agreement." It is also described as "a gathering of gratitude, unity, and peace."

Permission granted for another reason
Parents of the school reacted strongly to the revelation of the event, contacting the Parents' Association, to ask who gave permission for it to take place.
Sources from the Municipality of Larnaca stressed that the organizers, in their initial communication with the authorities, on October 17, 2025, stated that they wish to carry out tree planting of 50 trees as part of their social contribution to the city.
The same sources underlined that the tree planting will take place on a traffic island opposite the school, and not within the area of the Vergina High School, as stated in the announcement of the Jewish Community of Cyprus.
It is reported that the Municipality will not grant permission to the organizers to place or install any sign on the islet.
