THE FALL OF ARMAMENT BASES FROM A HELICOPTER IS A HUMAN ERROR - WHAT THE GEEF SAID IN PARLIAMENT

The Deputy Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Neophytos Pachoulidis, attributed the incident with the fall of the armament bases from an H-145M helicopter of the National Guard to a possible human error during a training activity during the session of the Parliamentary Committee for the Monitoring of Development Plans and the Control of Public Expenditure of the Parliament, clarifying, however, that the investigation of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff for the conditions has not been completed.

It is recalled that the incident took place in Pegeia, on October 21. According to what the helicopter operators heard, on the intensity of the exercise (they were performing demanding manoeuvres and dives) and because these are new weapon systems, they may have incorrectly activated the function which disengages both armament bases. As we are informed, this button causes both weapon stations to fall to keep the helicopter in balance.

The incident is being investigated in collaboration with the French Airbus, the manufacturer of the helicopters. According to the information, ways are being considered to protect this button, possibly by adding a protective frame, so that these mistakes are not repeated in the future.
