The President of EDA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, referred on Thursday to the resolution of the water issue of the Paphos district in the field of water supply, the good cooperation of the EDA Paphos with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, but also to its common goal which is to serve the citizen.
Mr. Pittokopitis, who made statements in the context of the announcements of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, in Paphos, praised the cooperation of EDA Paphos with the Ministry of Agriculture but also the very positive results, which were seen during the last summer we went through, a very difficult period, without having to proceed with any cuts in households, as he said.
We have "resolved the water issue of the province of Paphos and the one for the water supply", he said, adding that this will also be ensured by the implementation of the decision of the President of the Republic himself, which was announced at the last pan-provincial meeting, that as far as the desalination plant in Kouklia is concerned, its capacity will be extended by the summer to 25.000 cubic meters of water, This is feasible and expected to be implemented in any case.
At the same time, he expressed his satisfaction with today's statement by Mrs. Panagiotou that the farmer was not and will not be the "poor relative" of the whole system in terms of water supply to meet the irrigation needs of farmers, and that the Government is taking measures and implementing decisions, so that this announcement is implemented and is a reality.
He added that he has no hesitation that the Government and the Ministry are moving in this direction as well, estimating, however, that things are certainly very difficult due to the climate crisis, prolonged water scarcity and drought. He added that in order to deal with all this, money and time are needed.
We, he said, "give this credit to the Ministry, to the Government and we are at their disposal, to the extent of our competences, to respond to the fullest in order to deal with this social problem". Finally, he added that the goal of all of them is to serve the citizen.
