The municipality of Ierokipia has not been able to repay the large debt it inherited to the water development department. As mentioned in the latest report of the audit service on the WDD, an amount of €46.3 million. due by local government authorities, in relation to the purchase of water supply.
These authorities continued to invoice and collect from their consumers the water sales fees, without paying the corresponding purchase value of the water to the WDD.
The most important debts from the Local Government Authorities concerned the Municipalities of Ayia Napa (€9.2m), Paralimni (€2.0m), Aradippou (€1.8m), Geroskipou (€2.8m) and Lefkara (€1.2m), while significant amounts were also owed by Community Councils. Indicatively, the clubs of Avgorou (€2.5m), Pyla (€2.3m), Apostolos Andreas and Loukas Kolossiou (€2.2m), Frenarous (€2.0m) and Liopetriou (€1.6m) were mentioned.
