KOILI FIRE EXTINGUISHED BUT AUTHORITIES STILL ON ALERT

 Paphos Live 25 November 2025

The Fire Service was fighting an all-night battle with the flames to extinguish the fire between the communities of Stroumbi and Koili, with Spokesman Andreas Kettis stating that there is no longer an active front, apart from some small outbreaks. The fire burned an area of about 75 hectares, while according to Mr. Kettis, no help from abroad will be needed to assist in the extinguishing efforts.

"The situation in the fire is clearly better. The firefighting forces worked throughout the night," Mr. Kettis said in a post on X. A drone with a thermal camera flew overnight and recorded outbreaks of fire, which the teams extinguished, it added.

He also says that there are still small outbreaks, mainly in ravines, where extinguishing efforts continue. Early in the morning, drops began from three aerial means, including two aircraft and a helicopter.

He added that no force is released and they continue today to protect and fully secure the area but also to deal with any resurgences. He also clarified that no help from abroad will be needed.

Forces of the Fire Brigade, the Department of Forests and the Game Fund assisted in the extinguishing. The causes of the fire will be investigated at a later stage.
