DEPARTMENT OF FORESTS - FREE CONCESSION OF SEEDLINGS TO DEAL WITH CLIMATE CHANGE

The period for submitting applications for the free concession of seedlings by the Department of Forests to public bodies and organized groups, to deal with climate change, in the context of the implementation of a relevant ministerial decision, is extended until Friday, November 28.

Applications can be submitted to the local forest stations in printed form or by e-mail. Application forms are available at the local forest stations and on the website of the Department of Forests (www.moa.gov.cy/forest).

Beneficiaries of free seedlings are only public bodies and organized groups, such as the Local Government (Municipalities and Communities), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (School Units), other Government Services (Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Police, National Guard, Hospitals, etc.), ecclesiastical authorities (Churches, Chapels, Monasteries), other organized groups and citizens' initiatives that have proven to have secured suitable land for Tree planting.

With the Amending Decision (Nos. 94.019 and 211/25), the Council of Ministers approved the free annual concession of up to 100,000 seedlings, worth approximately €250,000, from the nurseries of the Department of Forests, within the planting season (November – February), on an annual basis.

He also approved the inclusion of ordinary citizens among the beneficiaries for participation in the "Tree Planting Program to Address Climate Change" and ordinary citizens, who will use the plants for their own use within their property. The plants will be available to citizens during the "Tree Week" and their total number will not exceed 50,000 plants, out of a total of 100,000 plants.

Finally, the Council of Ministers decided that the Municipalities should cooperate with organized groups, in order to be able to apply for the free concession of seedlings.
