Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, said his country is strengthening its role as a key regional hub for energy trade and exchange in cooperation with Cyprus, leveraging its fully integrated infrastructure, as reported by Egyptian media.

Speaking at an Energy Talks discussion with the Minister of Energy of Cyprus, George Papanastasiou, in the context of ADIPEC 2025, Badawi stressed that this energy cooperation allows Egypt to offer a fast, economical and reliable corridor for the transport of the energy resources of the Eastern Mediterranean to international markets, at a competitive cost.

The minister pointed out that the connection of the Cypriot "Kronos" reserve with the Egyptian infrastructure is the first practical step towards regional energy integration. This project follows the two trade agreements signed in October for the transport of natural gas. The works are progressing rapidly in cooperation with the Cypriot side and the partners of the reserve, Eni and TotalEnergies, with the aim of completing all procedures and accelerating the Final Investment Decision (FID), as he noted.

Badawi added that the model of this cooperation will pave the way for the implementation of the project to connect the "Aphrodite" field, as well as for the transfer of any future discoveries to Egyptian infrastructure.

Egypt and Cyprus signed two trade agreements in October for the transport of natural gas from the Kronos field to Egypt, on the sidelines of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Conference and Exhibition (EMC 2025) held in Limassol.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February, the Saturn field, with an estimated reserves of 3 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas, will be connected via an underwater pipeline to the Zohr field facilities, processed and liquefied at the Damietti LNG plant for export to European markets.
