CRIME ROUND UP

 Filenews 10 November 2025

The death of the 30-year-old woman, who was found dead in an apartment in the area of Germasogeia on Sunday morning, is due to a criminal act. This is the victim Victory Osarumen Thompson, 30 years old, from Nigeria.

The investigators were waiting for the first results from the autopsy carried out by the medical examiners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodox Orthodoxou, who confirmed that the woman's death was due to a criminal act.

According to information from Filenews, the investigative authorities have testimonies from tenants of neighbouring apartments, who reported that in the early hours of Sunday they heard voices from the apartment where four Nigerian women lived.

At the same time, information states that the four women were having fun earlier in a bar in the area and returned to the apartment around 5 in the morning. The women are said to have lived in this apartment for the last four days, with the same information stating that the two are legally in Cyprus, while one is said to be residing illegally in the country.

In the hands of the investigators of the TAE Limassol are evidence and testimonies that seem to refute the claims of the three suspects.

At the same time, reliable information from Filenews states that the three women allegedly cleaned the area and the place where the 30-year-old died, as there was blood, and then informed the Ambulance Service. The same information states that there was a mess in the apartment, while it is possible that substances were also used.

According to the examinations, the 30-year-old has injuries to various parts of her body. As part of the evaluation of testimonies and evidence, two 24-year-old women and a 35-year-old woman, all of them compatriots, were arrested. The three arrested were interrogated and made various allegations that are being investigated.

In his statements at the scene of the murder, the Assistant Police Director and Spokesman of ADE Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, stated that "around 11 in the morning we were informed by the Ambulance Service about a call to an apartment in the area of Potamos Germasogeia, where a woman of about 30 years old was found, who was unconscious and was found dead". The legal autopsy will be carried out on Monday morning, while the Limassol TAE continues the examinations.

It should be noted that the three women from Nigeria are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court today for a request for their detention.

The TAE Limassol is investigating a case of premeditated murder.

Update - 30-year-old Victory Osarumen Thompson, who was found dead in her apartment in Germasogeia on Sunday morning, seems to have been brutally beaten with a broomstick. Suspected of the murder of the 30-year-old, her three female compatriots, who lived with her in the apartment, were arrested.

According to the testimonies of the three female suspects, the victim was in a furious state when they returned in the early hours of the morning, she started attacking them and the suspects tried to restrain her, resulting in her fatal injury.

The three women were brought before the Limassol District Court this morning for a request for their detention, with the investigators of the Limassol Police Department investigating offenses related to premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit a felony against them, while the 35-year-old suspect is being investigated for the crime of illegal stay. The investigators requested their detention for a period of eight days, with their lawyers not objecting. The Court approved the request and ordered their detention.

The three female suspects made similar allegations before investigators about the events that led to the death of the 30-year-old. As they said, they have been living in the apartment for the last week all together, where, as they claimed, they practice prostitution.

According to them, they left the apartment around midnight, leaving the victim alone. They returned around 5 in the morning, accompanied by another friendly couple. Then they found the victim in a furious state and assumed that she had used drugs, trying to calm her down.

The 1st suspect, aged 24, stated that she had a close relationship with the victim, as they lived together in Nicosia, where the victim used various drugs. In the last few days they had moved to Limassol and lived in the apartment in Germasogeia.

According to the investigator of the case before the Court, according to the testimonies, at midnight on 8-9/11 the suspects went to a nightclub. Returning to the apartment at around 05:00, they found the victim in a furious state. The 1st suspect tried to calm her down. The victim bit her and reacted. The 1st suspect hit her with her hands and the 2nd suspect, aged 35, with a broomstick. The friendly couple from Nigeria was also present, who also tried to calm her down and used violence on the victim.

Then, as they claimed, the couple left and the suspects went to bed, believing that the victim had fallen asleep.

The 35-year-old was hitting her with a broomstick

Later, at about 10:00, the 1st suspect spotted the victim unconscious near the bathroom, asked for help from the 2nd suspect, who tried to provide her with first aid, and called an ambulance. It should be noted that the 1st suspect cleaned the area of blood.

The 2nd suspect confirmed that when they returned to the apartment the victim was in a furious state, that the 1st suspect tried to calm her down, that they were bitten by the victim and reacted by restraining her. She admitted that she slapped the victim and then fell asleep, waking up later when the 1st suspect asked her for help, while she tried to provide the victim with first aid and called an ambulance.

The 3rd suspect reported that she returned at 05:00 in a state of intoxication and was sleeping. At some point she woke up and saw the 1st suspect hitting the victim with her hands and the 2nd hitting her with a broomstick.

In a written statement she gave to the offices of the TAE Limassol, with the help of an interpreter, the 2nd suspect stated that at midnight on 09/11/2025 she saw the victim using drugs and then left the residence with the 1st and 3rd suspects, where they went to a nightclub.

With fury, she fatally injured the 30-year-old

Returning to the residence, the victim was out of control and did not realize what she was doing. When she went to her room, the victim approached her and attacked her, biting her in the leg. The 1st suspect intervened and tried to restrain the victim. The 2nd suspect received a broomstick, with which she started hitting the victim even when it broke. The friendly couple also went to the room, who also used violence on the victim to calm her down.

The victim lost consciousness, while the couple left, taking the 30-year-old's mobile phone with them. The 2nd suspect then fell asleep and later the 1st suspect woke her up and told her that the victim was unconscious. The 1st suspect, after cleaning the apartment of blood, then notified the ambulance, which later arrived together with the Police.

In an investigative statement by the 3rd suspect, she stated that she went with the suspects and another person to a club in Limassol and at about 05:00, after they returned to their residence, she was in a state of intoxication and sleeping. At some point she woke up and saw the 2nd suspect hitting the victim with a stick, while the 1st suspect was slapping her. She asked them to stop and tried with a wire she found in the place to tie the hands of the victim, who was reacting and was in a furious state.

It should be noted that two more persons are being sought, for whom arrest warrants are expected to be issued as soon as their details are ascertained.

Another 53 testimonies are expected to be taken for the case, while a large number of silk items were received, including the broken broomstick, evidence that will be sent for scientific examinations.

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca imposed a 12-year prison sentence on a 39-year-old woman from Greece who was arrested last August at Larnaca Airport, when more than 20 kilograms of cannabis were found in her luggage.

The accused was found guilty, after her own admission, of charges of importing and possessing drugs for the purpose of supplying them to other persons and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The 39-year-old was arrested on the night of August 19, after the cooperation of YKAN with the Customs Authorities, as soon as she arrived on a flight from Milan. During a check of her luggage, 40 packages were found and confiscated, which contained a quantity of cannabis weighing 20 kilograms and 30 grams. She admitted that she was recruited to transport the drugs for a fee and that she accepted because she was facing financial problems. She also claimed that she did not know who she would deliver the drugs to in Cyprus and that she would receive instructions after arriving on the island.

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca referred to the large number of similar serious cases that are now coming before it, noting the need for the imposition of dissuasive penalties.

The case was handled on behalf of the Prosecution by Elena Cleridou.

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) on Monday announced that the Supreme Constitutional Court has dismissed an appeal filed by four former board members of Cyprus Popular Bank Public Co Ltd, thereby upholding earlier court and regulatory decisions imposing administrative fines.

The decision was issued on October 15, 2025, under Appeal No. 8/21, involving Efthimios MbouloutasEleftherios ChiliadakisMarkos Forou, and Panayiotis Kounni as appellants against the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission.

The case originated from CySEC’s decision dated April 28, 2014, which imposed administrative fines on the four individuals, who were members of the bank’s Board of Directors at the time.

The commission had found that the individuals were responsible for violations of the Transparency Requirements (Transferable Securities Admitted to Trading on a Regulated Market) Law.

Specifically, violations concerned the statement of the board of directors and others included in the company’s half-yearly financial report for the period ending June 30, 2010, and in the company’s annual financial report for the year ending December 31, 2010.

Additionally, the decision cited violations of the Public Offer and Prospectus Law in connection with Cyprus Popular Bank’s prospectuses dated May 28, 2010, September 1, 2010, December 21, 2010, and May 19, 2011, which had been signed by the defendants, with the exception of Forou.

Following the imposition of fines by CySEC, the four individuals filed applications before the Administrative Court, challenging the regulator’s decision.

On November 30, 2020, the Administrative Court issued its ruling, upholding CySEC’s decision in full.

A copy of that Administrative Court decision dated November 30, 2020, is publicly available.

The appellants subsequently filed Appeal No. 8/21 before the Supreme Constitutional Court (Second Instance), contesting the Administrative Court’s ruling.

On October 15, 2025, the Supreme Constitutional Court dismissed the appeal and upheld the Administrative Court’s decision of November 30, 2020.

In its judgment, the Supreme Constitutional Court found that the allegations of partiality and prejudice against the President of the commission were not proven to the required degree.

The court also held that the approval of a prospectus by the relevant authorities does not exempt those who sign it from their legal obligations.

The ruling thus confirmed the legality and validity of the original administrative fines imposed by the commission in 2014.
