The Paphos District Court today issued an 8-day detention order against a 58-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday by the Police to facilitate investigations into the attempted murder committed on Wednesday afternoon in the Konia area.
According to the Police, the victim is a 26-year-old Greek Cypriot, who was stabbed multiple times and has injuries to various parts of his body. He was initially transferred to the Emergency Department of the Paphos General Hospital, but due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later transferred, at around 21:00, to a private hospital in Limassol, where he is being treated in critical condition.
The incident occurred at around 18:15 outside a kiosk in Konia, with the perpetrator fleeing immediately after the attack. Police attribute the motive for the attempted murder to personal differences.
The case is being investigated by the Paphos Police Department.
Filenews - According to the Police, the friction between the two men was the result of differences that the 26-year-old had with the 58-year-old's daughter, who even complained shortly before the incident in Konia and her harassment by the 26-year-old. It is noted that the suspect's daughter, as reported by the police spokesman, had also filed a complaint about damage allegedly caused by the 26-year-old to her vehicle.
The Police spokesman also said that the knife with which the attempted murder was committed is still being sought, while the suspect was arrested having changed the clothes he was wearing at the time in question, which have also not yet been located. The investigations, the spokesman concluded in court, are also being carried out on the basis of material from closed circuits in the area which have been received by the Police.

The two 28-year-old Greek expatriates from Georgia, who were arrested on October 30 on suspicion of the murder of Stavros Demosthenous, arrived on Thursday morning from Thessaloniki.
The investigators of the TAE Limassol went to Thessaloniki on Wednesday and this morning, after receiving the two suspects, they transported them by plane from Thessaloniki to Cyprus.
An operation was set up for their transport during which draconian security measures were taken. Upon their arrival at Larnaca airport, they were arrested with a court warrant.
Around 11 in the morning, the two 28-year-olds, transported by official vehicles and accompanied by strong Police forces, crossed the threshold of the Limassol Police Department. Information from Filenews states that the two 28-year-old suspects will be interrogated this afternoon by the investigators of the TAE Limassol, while tomorrow, Friday, they will be brought before the Limassol District Court for a request for their detention.
The roles attributed to them by the investigators of the TAE Limassol are considered important in terms of the execution of the murder of Demosthenes. One is even said to have a decisive involvement. It should be noted that the two 28-year-olds are cousins, while one is also a relative of the 31-year-old accused, also an expatriate.
It is recalled that the case was registered last week and referred by the District Court before the Criminal Court, with the start of the hearing set for January 29, 2026. All four defendants were taken to the Central Prison as prisoners until the start of the trial.
The defendants face a total of 17 charges, which relate to premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to murder, arson, illegal possession, transportation and use of a firearm and explosives, theft of a car, participation in a criminal organization, as well as theft — the latter concerns only the 51-year-old defendant.
However, the case is expected to be re-registered in the coming weeks, so that the two 28-year-olds can be added to the indictment.

The proceedings against the two Greek Cypriots, who are "accused" of violating personal data, continued on Wednesday before the "district court" in occupied Trikomo, with the "prosecuting authority" presenting two "police officers" and a translator as witnesses.
The first witness, a member of the "police", testified about the "arrest" process as well as the confiscation of personal belongings (computers, mobile phones, USB) as "evidence", which concern a Turkish Cypriot real estate agent from occupied Kyrenia. The defense questioned the expediency of the mass seizure of objects. Subsequently, a second member of the "police" from the "aliens department" presented entry and exit data of the accused, confirming that they are not permanent residents of the pseudo-state.
As part of Wednesday's proceedings, a translator also testified about the "blue envelope" held by the defendants during their "arrest". According to the translator, among the documents translated were a power of attorney for the "real estate committee", as well as a draft letter allegedly concerning an intention to sue the pseudo-state.
Regarding this last document, the defense side asked questions to the translator in order to confirm the fact that the text in question had been sent to the defendant by e-mail.
The "trial" was interrupted and is expected to continue at noon on Thursday, at 13:30, with the presentation of new "prosecution" witnesses.

A 20-year-old young man picked up a minor student outside her school and after they went for a walk, he started touching her in various parts of her body and proceeded to acts that brought him face to face with the crime of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13, which provides for imprisonment up to life.
After the school reported to her relatives that the student did not appear in class in the morning, the young man was arrested and admitted to the offenses. The Paphos Criminal Court recently sentenced him to two years and three months in prison on two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13, but also for allowing the minor to drive his vehicle without a license and insurance.
It all happened on 29/4/2025 in Paphos, when the victim was 12 years and 11 months old and the accused was 19 years and 7 months old. Both are foreigners, while the accused resided in Cyprus with the status of subsidiary protection. That day, the young man went outside the minor's school, waited for her and when she got off the bus, her classmate led her to the accused, who, as he told her, wished to have an affair with her.
As stated by the defense, he had the impression that the minor was 14 years old and not almost 13, due to her characteristics. The minor got into his vehicle and they headed to the beach where the touching started but the young man did not stay there. The minor reacted and took a small knife that she found in the vehicle and injured herself in the hand. Then the accused took her back to school where her family was waiting for her.
The minor was examined by a psychologist after she showed symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The Paphos Criminal Court, after hearing all the facts and weighing the personal circumstances of the young man, ruled that his behaviour is considered serious, creates revulsion and disdain and raises the need to impose penalties of a deterrent nature in order to suppress such behaviours in the future. "The Court has a duty to protect the rights of children, to safeguard their healthy development and to protect their mental world as well as their dignity," he said in his decision.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Court considered it imperative, in order to better achieve the goal of the rehabilitation of the accused but also in order to preventively protect society and in particular minor children in view of the nature of the offenses he has committed, to issue a series of decrees prohibiting the accused, for a period of 2 years after his release:
- To offer any services to children.
- To be employed or employed in places where children are or are nearby.
- To live in an area adjacent to organized spaces where children are or frequent.
Furthermore, the accused was referred to the Supervisory Authority, throughout his detention in the Central Prison and for a period of 2 years from his release.

The Limassol District Court last Tuesday imposed a six-month prison sentence on a 69-year-old lawyer.
The lawyer was found guilty on a charge related to the issuance of a bounced check amounting to €175.000.
According to the details of the offense, the convicted person in his capacity as a director of a company issued a check with the aforementioned amount, which was payable on October 1, 2019 and was given against a debt to another person on 4/9/2019.
When it was presented on 25/2/2020 to the bank from which it was issued, it was not cashed out, as the issuer's bank account was closed at the time of presentation of the check and remained unpaid for a period of 15 days from its presentation. In addition, the 69-year-old convict's interest company was fined €4.000.
In her verdict, the District Judge, Aphrodite L. Parparinou, cites case law on the seriousness of the offense, recording what she took into account before reaching her verdict on the amount of the sentence. In fact, he did not ignore that the convict took actions that show practical remorse, that he has a clean criminal record and that he is a married father of four adult children, facing a health problem with his lungs.
However, the Judge notes - among other things - that "mitigating factors cannot outweigh the need for effective application of the Law" due to the seriousness of the offenses, to which I have referred, but also the urgent need to impose a sentence of a deterrent nature in accordance with the above case law. They can, however, affect the scope of the sentence." And after adding that the only appropriate penalty is that of imprisonment, he notes that "the imposition of any other sentence I consider would be ineffective and dissuasive" since it would not serve the element of deterrence at all (...)".
The Judge, examining the possibility of a suspensive nature of the sentence and after first referring to case law, concluded that "there are no satisfactory reasons to order the suspension of the prison sentence", explaining that "the amount of the cheque in question totalling €175,000 to date has not been paid at all (...)". "I believe the opposite approach would send the wrong messages" regarding the offense of issuing a check without a receipt, which is still on the rise."
The complainant, in whose name the disputed check had been issued, had testified in court as a prosecution witness in the case, stating that the convict had approached him in 2018 through a mutual acquaintance and suggested that he invest in a "shipping fund" investment plan, through which he would receive back the capital that would now invest a profit of €25,000. The complainant had stated that while he was cautious, around the beginning of 2019, he was convinced and proceeded with an investment worth €150,000.
When the complainant found that the money was not being refunded and that he had a financial cost, the convicted person and under the threat of his complaint to the Police by the complainant proceeded to actions, including the issuance of the disputed check. The complainant had made a good impression on the Court, which had accepted his testimony.
