A coordinated operation was organized last night by the Paphos police directorate with the aim of identifying wanted persons and preventing crime. Members of the force from various divisions participated. Two Greek Cypriots, known to the authorities for cases of burglary and theft, were arrested. One of them has even been linked to a burglary of a house in the village of Armou, which was reported last week, from which a shotgun and an air gun were stolen, among other things. The 32-year-old, against whom an arrest warrant had been issued and was wanted, was located around one in the morning and arrested.
In a second case, around 10.30 p.m. members of the Police located a car parked on Mesogis Avenue, whose driver, as soon as he noticed the members of the Police, drove off at breakneck speed and tried to escape.
Members of the Police followed the vehicle in question, which was immobilized after a tyre failure. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran away, while from a testimony that emerged it was found that he is a 30-year-old Greek Cypriot, known to the authorities for burglary and theft cases, who was driving a vehicle that has been immobilized since 2019. Burglary tools were found inside the car.
Members of the Police went to his house. As soon as the 30-year-old noticed them, he tried to escape from the balcony, as a result of which he was slightly injured in the head. He was arrested and taken to Paphos General Hospital, where he was given first aid and discharged.

The Police arrested two more persons for the murder of the 30-year-old woman in Limassol today.
Specifically, both the 30-year-old wanted and the 31-year-old wanted woman against whom an arrest warrant was issued have been arrested.
They will appear today before the Limassol District Court for a request for their detention.
The 30-year-old was located by the Police in Nicosia, while the 31-year-old was located in Limassol after the actions of the investigators.
Three more people have been arrested for the same case.
The TAE Limassol continues the examinations.
Update - Shocking evidence is coming to light about the horrific murder of 30-year-old Nigerian Victory Osarumen Thompson in Limassol. Two new faces crossed the threshold of the Court today (11/11), while the investigators of the TAE Limassol are looking for answers about what exactly happened in the fateful hours inside the apartment.
The 30-year-old and the 31-year-old, who were arrested this morning, were brought before the Limassol District Court on the same day. The Court approved the request of the investigators of the TAE Limassol and ordered their detention for seven days. With these arrests, the number of suspects reaches five.
The 31-year-old suspect, together with the 31-year-old, went to the apartment after having fun with their other compatriots in a nightclub. There, the 31-year-old allegedly attacked the victim and hit her with his hands. The woman lost consciousness, while the two suspects (a 30-year-old and a 31-year-old woman) immediately left the apartment.
As Filenews is informed, members of the TAE Limassol went yesterday to a residence where the 31-year-old lives, in Agios Athanasios, where, with the consent of another person, two women's bags containing the amount of €1.090 were located and received. According to the Police, this person pointed to the investigators a fenced field next to the residence, where a pink garbage bag was found in which there were mobile phones that the 31-year-old allegedly threw away so that they would not be located. Among them was the victim's mobile phone.
The same person reported that around 7:00 on Sunday morning, the two suspects (a 30-year-old and a 31-year-old woman) knocked on her door. When she opened them, she noticed that there was blood on the 30-year-old's shirt and hands, while both appeared to be in a state of shock.
The 31-year-old was in possession of the two bags and mobile phones, which she had already placed in a garbage bag. After about half an hour, the two suspects left the residence.
The investigative authorities, after securing the details of the 31-year-old, proceeded to issue an arrest warrant. The suspect was searched at his residence in Nicosia, without being located. In a subsequent investigation and with the written consent of his roommate, the clothes he was wearing at the time of the murder were located and received as evidence. The 31-year-old was finally arrested today, at 7:00 in the morning, by members of ADE Nicosia.
During his oral interrogation, he denied any involvement, making various allegations. The 31-year-old, for her part, voluntarily presented herself at the offices of TAE Limassol, where she also denied any involvement.
About 40 more statements are expected to be taken for the case and the mobile phones found will be examined.
Chilling details in the Court
What was presented to the Court during the procedure of the request for detention is chilling. The investigator stated that the victim was beaten with rage, while the broomstick found broken is evidence of extreme brutality.
The murder appears to have been committed on Sunday, between 5:00 and 10:00 in the morning. From the testimonies of the three women who live in the same apartment, it appears that the 35-year-old suspect, a roommate of the victim, was the one who hit her with the broomstick. It also seems that the victim was brutally beaten in a room and then taken by the suspects to another place, where she died helpless. As "F" wrote in an article the day before yesterday, Tenants of neighbouring apartments said in their testimonies that in the early hours of Sunday they heard voices from the apartment where four Nigerian women lived.
According to what they reported, the three suspicious Nigerian roommates left the apartment around midnight, leaving the 30-year-old alone. They returned around 5:00 in the morning from a nightclub in Limassol, accompanied by the 30-year-old and the 31-year-old, and found her in a furious state. They thought that the 30-year-old had used drugs and tried to calm her down by exercising violence on her.

A family man who works as a distributor in a well-known dairy company was prosecuted for allegedly stealing milk packages, on the basis of complaints from a bakery-pastry shop manager, which were de facto not substantiated.
In fact, for years he suffered in the courts and 18 appearances were made in the context of the case, before the Attorney General decided to suspend his prosecution for lack of evidence.
This case raises questions about the way an ordinary citizen can be treated by the prosecuting authorities.
In the present case and on the basis of evidence known to "F", the former "accused" was charged with the following:
>> Theft of milk packages of unspecified number, which makes it doubtful that there is an incentive to commit such an offense since there is no clear evidence of obtaining a specific benefit.
>> One of the complainants in charge of a bakery-pastry shop provided CCTV footage to support his allegations of theft, apparently without this being thoroughly examined. When questioned by a public prosecutor who was recently called to handle the case, more than five years after the complaint, it was found that the videos were not such as to support allegations of theft. That is why it was decided to suspend the prosecution at the end of October and finally stop it last Friday, November 7.
>> At a time when the police examinations of visual material do not make it clear whether the distributor was committing a criminal offense, a case was nevertheless filed against the latter.
>> As can be seen from the indictment, there was no clear evidence of the commission of the crime of theft. "The defendant ... stole milk of unknown value from the bakery's property", the details of the charges state.
>> The complainant's lawyer claims that from the videos it is possible to count at least in one case the quantity of milk packages and by extension to show that he did not steal.
>> The head of the distributor testified to the Police from the first moment, talking about the honesty and integrity of his subordinate, while he also invoked an internal audit that did not show any offense, but only the need to improve the practice in cases where there is a change in short-term products.
The case arose in the spring of 2020. The distributor was in a bakery-pastry shop in Nicosia where, by replacing a number of short-term products, he allegedly made a mistake according to what he claimed. Instead of returning six milks, he returned four. The error was fixed when flagged.
On the occasion of this event, he was reported to the Police by the manager of the store and the director of the owner company. The complainants also handed over visual material from four dates when the distributor is recorded changing products to support their positions.
During the police examinations, statements were taken from those involved and it was decided to register a case against the distributor in 2021.
The lawyer of the complainant, Marios Spyrou, in a letter on 14/9/2022 to the Attorney General, the content of which was also communicated to the Chief of Police, requested a suspension of the prosecution of his client.
He explained that after studying the visual material, it appears that "from the footage it is clear that the complainants are lying".
In fact, among other things, he notes that "the prosecution of our client was based only on the written testimony of the complainants". He also spoke of a flawed investigation: "If the investigator of the case had carefully looked at the footage from the closed circuit surveillance, he would have identified the contradiction in relation to what the complainants said and by extension the criminal case in question against our client would not have been forwarded."
The Legal Service responded on 13/10/2025 expressing an apology for the delay in responding to the request. He attributed the delayed examination of the request to errors, but also to technical issues the non-timely evaluation of the visual material. Finally, he informed that the public prosecutor who thoroughly examined the videos recommended that the prosecution be stopped, which was done after a decision by the prosecutor.

The two rental vans that transported over 10.000 boxes of cigarettes from the occupied areas to the free areas, which were located last Wednesday, connected the two major cases, which are related to a well-organized ring that smuggles tobacco to Israel. For the two cases, a 26-year-old Israeli and a 51-year-old Turkish Cypriot, who were arrested in Pyla and Athienou, are in custody.
The officials of the Customs Department found that the two vans were rented by the same person from two vehicle rental companies in the free areas. Their two drivers went to the occupied territories and picked up the smuggled cigarettes, which had customs charges amounting to €620.000. Then, through uncontrolled routes, they tried to transport them to the free areas.
The 26-year-old Israeli was first arrested by members of the Larnaca OPE in Pyla and the Customs Department. 3.950 boxes of 200 cigarettes each were found in his possession. A few hours later, members of the Green Line Control and Surveillance Center (YAM Headquarters) informed officials of the Customs Department that in a search carried out in the Athienou-Lympia area, in a commercial rental vehicle driven by the 51-year-old Turkish Cypriot, they found a total of 6.400 boxes of 200 cigarettes each.

Confirming the connection of the two cases, which are now being investigated by the Investigations Department of the Chief Customs Office, the spokesman of the Department, Giorgos Konstantinou, told filenews that they seem to concern the cigarette trafficking ring to Israel. "Deposits are being taken and investigations are being carried out at vehicle rental companies to see how many cars were rented and what routes they made. We believe that the final recipient is in Israel, but the intermediary who would receive the cigarettes in the free areas is also being sought."

The prevailing scenario is that the smuggled cigarettes were loaded by the members of the ring on a boat in a sea area in the free areas and then transferred, outside the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus, to a ship that would transport them to Israel. "We suspect that they would have been transported by sea, due to the cigarette packaging in which nylon was placed to be waterproof. However, we do not rule out the possibility that it was transported by air, although it is considered more remote due to the amount of cigarettes," noted Mr. Constantinou, indicating that no connection has yet been found with the case of the arrest of three Israelis last February at the Psarolimano fishing shelter in Larnaca. It is noted that at that time, 10.503 boxes of cigarettes were found on a boat in Psarolimano, but also in a warehouse in the province of Larnaca.
