Another person is placed in the frame of the murder of Stavros Demosthenous and, as it seems, this is a person who had a decisive role in the case. Initial information from the Greek authorities stated that one of the two Georgian suspects is the executor. However, this is not supported by the evidence and evidence in the possession of the investigative team of the TAE Limassol so far.
According to what was forwarded to the Greek authorities, for the purposes of executing the European arrest warrants for the two suspects, the investigators have now been enlightened as to the role of each in the execution of the "death contract" of Demosthenes. To date, the relevant testimony had not been presented in any detention proceedings, except that it had become known that two persons were wanted. It should be noted that the cycle of arrests has not closed, as it seems that the new evidence leads the investigations even closer to those involved, especially to the person who killed the 49-year-old businessman.
The escape vehicle and the new evidence
Another vehicle, a BMW brand, is added to the escape frame, which, according to the closed surveillance circuits, was recorded in Agios Tychonas waiting for the arrival of the two perpetrators on the motorcycle. When the two perpetrators arrived at the scene and hid the motorcycle, about a minute later the BMW departs from there in the direction of the coastal front. The vehicle's license plates have been recorded by another security camera.
From the examinations carried out by the investigators, it was found that the BMW in question belongs to the father of one of the two 28-year-old Georgian suspects. In fact, on October 22 (five days after the murder) the owner of the vehicle was located, who, with his consent, gave the car so that it could be taken to the Police Directorate for investigation and taking various documents. And as it seems, the investigators "caught a lottery", as DNA may have been identified with some of the items they had in their possession and remained "orphans".
According to what the Police claim, the father of the 28-year-old said that the vehicle was driven exclusively by his son, who, however, left Cyprus on 21/10, together with his minor son, bound for Thessaloniki, where members of their family live. In fact, the father himself took them to the airport in this car.
They called him but he hung up on them!
The investigators of the TAE Limassol, according to what they claim, contacted the 28-year-old by phone in the presence of his father. The suspect claimed that he was in Agios Tychonas to obtain drugs but did not give further details about his trafficking. In fact, when he was asked when he would return, he then interrupted the conversation.
The role of the second suspect
On October 24, investigators obtained new information concerning the second 28-year-old (cousin of the 1st suspect), according to which the young man is involved in the murder of Demosthenes as the driver of the motorcycle. According to this information, after the murder, the 28-year-old was taken away by a relative along with a second person, who was allegedly the executor.
In addition, a reliable Police informant reportedly stated that the 28-year-old confided in him a few days after the murder that he participated in the crime, receiving a corresponding fee and performing the duties of a driver. According to him, their escape took place from the area of Agios Tychonas, with the help of his cousin, who transported them (28-year-old and executor) in a specific vehicle. In addition, after being informed by the publications, about the location of the motorcycle and the hat, he expressed his concerns about the progress of the investigations,
Further testimony in the possession of the investigative team of TAE Limassol states that a second vehicle, also a BMW, arrives almost simultaneously with the car driven by the first suspect (getaway driver) at his home in Limassol, shortly after the murder was committed. The examinations revealed that the vehicle in question belongs to the father of the 28-year-old alleged driver of the motorcycle.
The Police secured another testimony, according to which the 28-year-old, on October 17 or 18, a few hours after the murder, was looking for his travel documents, informing his people that he would travel to Greece. However, in addition to the dozens of closed circuits and evidence, the investigators have managed to fully secure the clothes worn by the perpetrators.
It is recalled that the two suspects were taken on Friday morning to the Appeals Prosecutor's Office, at the Thessaloniki Courthouse, for the process of their extradition to the Cypriot authorities.
As it has become known, the two consented to their extradition. They remain in custody and their surrender by the Greek to the Cypriot authorities will be launched in the near future.
Five people are already in custody as suspects in the case. They are the 44-year-old former football player and owner of the motorcycle, two men aged 59 and 30 who allegedly participated in its purchase, as well as a 30-year-old convict who allegedly ordered the purchase from his cell in the Central Prison. In addition, a 51-year-old man of Greek origin is involved, who is connected to the stolen Mitsubishi Colt, in which jerry cans with flammable matter and his DNA were found.
