With a budget of €55 million. and co-funding from the EU, public spaces are created that enhance social cohesion and the quality of life of citizens
Parks are crucial interventions for sustainable development and the quality of life of citizens, as in addition to their environmental benefits, they function as meeting places, strengthening the cohesion of communities and fostering a sense of participation and intimacy between citizens and families. At the same time, they are places of entertainment and stress relief, especially in urban centers of cities, where intense rhythms of everyday life are observed.
With the aim of green growth, sustainable mobility and the upgrading of the quality of life of citizens, the Cohesion Policy Program "THALEIA2021-2027", provides for a budget of €55 million. approximately for the creation and upgrading of parks throughout Cyprus. These are important development projects, which offer safe, functional and sustainable public spaces for rest, social interaction and contact with nature. Below are 10 of the parks implemented under the "THALIA" Program, co-financed by the EU, the state budget and the Local Government Authorities.
Renovation of the Old GSP into a Green and Recreation Area in Nicosia
This emblematic project, with a total budget of €27.3 million, was completed in early 2025, transforming the site of the old GSP stadium into a green area in the heart of the city, easily accessible to citizens. The design of the project includes an outdoor amphitheater, cafes and other shops, as well as infrastructure connecting to the public bus network.
Various social, cultural, recreational and artistic events are now held in the premises of the old GSP, as it offers a new sustainable, accessible and functional space for greenery, recreation and social interaction.
Linear Park of Environmental Awareness at the Gialias River
With a budget of €5.6 million, the project of the Linear Park of Environmental Awareness on the Gialias River is being implemented. The park, 3 km long. and with a total area of 24,000 sq.m., includes a pedestrian path, a bicycle path, playgrounds, green areas, a dog park, nature and bird observatories. The purpose of the project is to create a space for safe walking, sports and recreation of citizens and to raise their awareness of biodiversity issues. The project is expected to be completed in early 2027 and will connect the Municipal Districts of Dali, Pera Chorio and Nisou.
Remodeling of the Pattihio Park Area in Larnaca
With a budget of €6.6 million, the ongoing project, which is expected to be completed in early 2026, includes, among other things, the maintenance and modernization of existing infrastructure and facilities, the planting of new trees and plants, the creation of a botanical garden and an active entertainment zone, a small open event space, a playground, a dog park, a pedestrian bridge, etc.
Upon completion, the project will contribute to the creation of a green lung in the city center of Larnaca, providing conditions for sports, entertainment and comfortable and safe movement of visitors.
Landscaping of Salina Municipal Park in Larnaca
With a budget of €3.2 million, the completion of the "Salina" Municipal Park in November 2024 created a beautiful green lung in the center of Larnaca. The park, with a total area of 14,600 sq.m., has entertainment, rest and sports areas for all, improving the urban environment, upgrading the quality of life of the residents of the area and enhancing accessibility. The project includes pedestrian and bicycle paths, an artificial lake, a pedestrian bridge, a playground and a refreshment area. The Park, which is located opposite the Larnaca Municipal Garden, has become a reference point for the city and contributes to the sustainable development of the urban center.
Creation of a Multifunctional Park in Tsiakkileros
In the province of Larnaca, with a budget of €2.3 million, the creation of the multifunctional park in Tsiakkilero is progressing, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The project, with a total area of 9,300 sq.m., includes green spaces, sports areas, a playground, a bicycle path, a dog park and an outdoor amphitheater, promoting social interaction and the revitalization of the area. The project is located in the government settlement of Tsiakkilero and is expected to significantly upgrade the area, offering a modern event and recreation space.
Landscaping of a Park on Gauguin Street in Limassol
The jewel park on Gauguin Street in Limassol, with a total budget of €2.3 million, was completed in August 2024, creating a green space, sports and social interaction for all ages, with easy access for the elderly and disabled. The park has a triangular plan and is about 10,000 sq.m. As part of its redevelopment, a circular square with steps was built (which is the central space for gatherings and events of a mild scale), an adult training area, a playground, bicycle racks, space for a small bicycle-moving café, places for social gatherings and a circular reflexology path. In addition, an open-air theater was built for screenings and performances, an observatory with a climbing wall, a table tennis point, courses with corridors, outdoor seating areas, a vegetable garden, etc.
Construction of a Park next to the Aetos Stadium in the Municipality of Limassol
In May 2025, the construction of the park in the district of Agios Ioannis, next to the Aetos stadium, was completed, with a budget of €1.1 million. The project, with a total area of 7,800 sq.m., includes two entrance squares, social gathering areas, green spaces, pedestrian paths, children's toys and parking spaces. The upgraded image of the area and the functionality of the project contribute to the upgrading of the quality of life of the residents, giving opportunities for sports, socializing and entertainment, in a safe and pleasant environment that can be enjoyed by all residents of the area.
Creation of an Urban Multifunctional Park in Ayia Napa
The project under construction, with a budget of €4.3 million. and with a total area of 27,500 sq.m., includes, among other things, a picnic area with comfortable areas for picnics and outdoor activities, a modern playground of 1,000 sq.m., an artificial lake, rich gardens with a variety of plants and flowers and an exhibition with mosaics that will adorn various parts of the park. The completion of the park, which is set for 2026, is expected to significantly upgrade the quality of life in the area, offering citizens a safe space for walking and recreation and creating a new point of interest for tourism, enriching the experience of visitors to Ayia Napa.
Creation of a Space for Sports Activities and Healthy Employment in Sotira
With a budget of €0.9 million, a modern sports and recreation area with a total area of 3,000 sq.m. was created in the area of Sotira, Famagusta. The space has a multi-purpose court, a playground, outdoor exercise equipment and rest and green areas, which is accessible to all. Through this design, an integrated area of quality recreation and play was created with modern and safe infrastructure, which significantly upgrades the area and the surrounding communities, improving the quality of life of citizens.
Creation of a Linear Park in Acheritou
The project, with a budget of €1 million. and with a total area of 5,200 sq.m. concerns the redevelopment and configuration of an existing space into a linear park with the creation of walking routes, a space for social gathering, paved areas, appropriate landscaping and appropriate lighting. It will also have rich vegetation.
The purpose of the project, which is expected to be completed in March 2026, is to revitalize the area and provide citizens with a space for safe access, walking, and recreation. At the same time, through this development, rainwater problems that occur in the area will be solved.
