YELLOW WEATHER WARNING AS STORM BARBARA APPROACHES CYPRUS

A yellow warning has been issued by the Meteorological Service.

The warning will be in effect from 12:00 pm to 9:00 am on Wednesday.

Isolated strong storms may initially affect the west and south coasts and later the east.

In a storm, hail may fall, while the winds will change and strengthen. The intensity of the rain is likely to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour.

The weather forecast

The barometric low named "BARBARA" and centered in the North Aegean, is moving east and the front that accompanies it is expected to affect the island on Tuesday night.

Today, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy, while it is possible that there will be a few isolated rains. Winds will blow in the morning mainly southeast to southwest light, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become southwest to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient on the southeast coast to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 27 degrees in the interior and west coasts, around 28 on the rest of the coasts and 19 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly cloudy and mainly from midnight onwards, local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected, initially in the west and progressively in other areas as well. In a storm, the winds are likely to strengthen and change, while hail is also possible. Winds will be mainly southwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and later in windward areas temporarily to very strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough and in the morning hours in the west and north to rough. The temperature will drop to around 17 degrees inland, around 18 on the coast and around 10 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday and Thursday, local rains and possible isolated thunderstorms are expected from time to time, while strong to very strong winds will blow in the area. On Friday the weather will be mostly clear, but at times there will be locally increased clouds.

The temperature will drop until Thursday, mainly in the interior and the mountains to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values, while on Friday it will rise slightly.
