THE ISSUE OF I-JUSTICE RETURNS

Filenews 29 October 2025 - by Michalis Hatzivasilis

Around mid-2026, the new i-justice, i.e. the electronic system for registering court documents with the participation of not only parties but also services from the state, will be ready.

Information from "F" states that after the termination of the contract with the contractor company that undertook to operate i-justice, as a universal system for electronic registration of documents in justice, actions were taken to announce a new tender covering all issues, so that the problems with the previous system do not reappear. As is well known, e-justice was implemented at the beginning of 2025, however many problems were observed, as a result of which the legal world asked for its termination before it was even properly implemented. The company was given time to resolve the issues, but in the end the contract was terminated.

According to estimates and a post by the Supreme Constitutional Court, it seems that the new system will be ready by the middle of next year. It is noted that the project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and Cyprus has obligations that it must fulfil in order to receive the relevant financial assistance. This reference was made due to the establishment of an Administrative Court of Appeal, which is why it was decided to readjust the iJustice system to reflect the new data.

In the meantime, the Supreme Constitutional Judicial Council recently announced three new positions of Judge, Administrative Court of Appeal. Lawyers interested in appointment can apply to the Ass. Chief Registrar, Secretary of the Supreme Constitutional Judicial Council, until 21 November 2025. According to the regulations, a Judge of the Administrative Court of Appeal must be a lawyer with at least 12 years of experience in the practice of the profession and a high moral standard. All candidates for appointment will be invited to an interview before the Supreme Constitutional Judicial Council, which will cover issues of personality, competence and general suitability of the candidates.
