THE BATTLE OF HOSE v WATER

 Filenews 27 October 2025

The state is not always to blame for its citizens. Sometimes, and especially when it comes to drinking water by the dropper, the citizens are to blame for their state. I will not make an in-depth analysis of the water management policy now that we are already up to our necks (or better yet, to the drop).

What burns is something else: our mentality.

Because this is not an image of a mature society. At a time when the dams are bursting with thirst, the news bulletins are counting cubic meters as if it were gold and the authorities are begging "save a little, a fine will fall", the average Cypriot still holds the rubber hose with pride.

And not for the garden, not even for the basil pot, but to wash the pavement, the sidewalk, his car and everything else that passes in front of him.

With this and that, then we wonder where the water went. Well, he went to the threshold, to the garage and to the sidewalk, which shines as if waiting for a visit from the Pope.
