The Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Phedonas Phedonos, had a meeting today with two Members of the Hungarian Parliament, who represent national minorities in the country: Mr. Laokratis Koranis, representative of the Greek minority, and Mr. Alexov Lyubomir, representative of the Serbian minority.
The discussion was held in a very cordial atmosphere and focused on issues of education and educational collaborations, with the aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge and good practices. At the same time, extensive reference was made to the framework formed by the Constitution of Hungary for the participation of minorities in the decision-making process at the parliamentary level. In fact, the way in which the constitutional consolidation of their rights enables minorities to experience the principle of inclusivity in practice and to contribute substantially to the country's legislative process was highlighted.
Mr. Laokratis Koranis is a well-known and stable friend of the Municipality of Paphos and the Mayor personally, with an acquaintance that dates back a decade and has cultivated close ties of cooperation. Today's meeting also gave the Mayor the opportunity to meet Mr. Alexov Lyubomir, who works closely with Mr. Koranis, in the context of the historically friendly relations that connect the Greek and Serbian minorities in Hungary.
Finally, the meeting highlighted the importance of the channels of communication and cooperation maintained by the Municipality of Paphos with personalities and institutions outside Cyprus, strengthening the extroversion and the role of the city as a bridge of dialogue and cooperation.
