An issue regarding the emergency exits in the arrivals hall at Paphos airport, due to the expansion works of the airport, has been of concern to competent services of the Republic since the beginning of this month.
As "F" is in a position to know, a part of the Civil Aviation (airport authority) found that the doors in question were sealed and therefore not accessible to the public in the event of an emergency evacuation.
A source of our newspaper said that even if someone opens these doors in an emergency, "they lead to a construction site and therefore the safety rules were not met". He indicated the expansion projects of Paphos airport.
The same information that has been cross-checked competently states that there was a report from the airport service and that recommendations have already been made to the management company.
In fact, as we are informed, the issue has also concerned the Fire Service, which plays a role, while a senior member of the Cyprus Police is also informed.
A person with an expert opinion who spoke to our newspaper said that in addition to the general safety rules, the manager of each airport has an obligation to comply with "safety and health" rules in case of construction work.

"F" contacted yesterday the director of aviation development, marketing and communication of Hermes Airports, Maria Kouroupi, who assured that arrangements have been made in relation to the issue raised. She explained that access to emergency exits has indeed been cut off since the beginning of the month due to the expansion works. However, she stressed that there are three alternative routes based on the plans that are also available. She also said that the issue of their marking, which is under settlement, is pending. She claimed that the managing company had provided information to ensure that in the event of an emergency, the emergency exits would be used.
A competent official from the Ministry of Transport told "F" yesterday that representations have already been made to resolve the issue.
