INCREASED FUNDS FOR STERLISATIONS, AND REGIONAL DOG SHELTER IN PALIOMETOCHO ANNOUNCED BY MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panagiotou, announced new actions for the protection and welfare of animals on the occasion of World Animal Day.

The Minister announced the granting of €100,000 for dog sterilizations, the tripling of the fund for the sterilization of cats from €100,000 to €300,000, as well as the sponsorship of €150,000 for the creation of a Regional Dog Shelter in Paliometocho.

The announcements were made during an event at the Strovolos Dog Park, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the "Little Volunteers" Association and with the support of the Municipality of Strovolos.

Dr. Panagiotou underlined that the aim of such actions is to strengthen the animal welfare culture and raise public awareness. "All animals ask of us is love and respect," he said, stressing the importance of the individual responsibility of every citizen towards animals.

Referring to the phenomena of abuse, the Minister noted that dealing with them requires synergies and collective effort, pointing out that the Government continues to strengthen the institutional framework for the protection of animals, with new legislative regulations and improvements to the registration system.

The event was held under the slogan "Why Love for Animals Unites Us" and included information booths of government and animal welfare organizations, as well as free activities for children and families.
