Filenews
The case of the murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenous is taking on new dimensions, with the pieces of the puzzle slowly starting to fall into place and leading the investigators of the TAE Limassol to new critical data. The telecommunications data of the suspects prove to be decisive for the course of the investigations, as they shed light on communications and contacts that are expected to lead to new revelations and arrests. By noon on Sunday, the arrests had reached six, with investigators handcuffing a 51-year-old man, however, according to our information, this number is expected to increase significantly within the next few hours.
The arrest of the 51-year-old is important
Particular importance is attached to the arrest of the 51-year-old, who is considered an important person in the case. The suspect is expected to be brought before the Limassol Court today, Monday, for the issuance of a detention order. At the same time, the detention order of the 45-year-old, former footballer, owner of the motorcycle, which was allegedly used in the murder, expires, with the authorities taking him back to Court asking for his further detention.
Telecommunications data unlocks the case
As Filenews revealed last Friday, investigators have secured court orders lifting the confidentiality of the telecommunications data of suspects in custody. According to our information, through the first analyses of the data, telephone communications and messaging through applications seem to emerge before and after the murder. At the same time, connections with persons inside the Central Offices seem to be emerging.
Parallel investigation into the leak of photos
In addition to the investigation into the murder, the authorities have already launched a separate criminal investigation in relation to the leak of photos of the victim's body. The investigation was launched following a complaint filed by the Ministry of Health, which requested the initiation of criminal proceedings for the possibility of committing serious offenses. Information states that it is not excluded, within the next 24 hours, that persons who may be involved in this unacceptable act will be suspended. The photos, which have been circulating for days even among ordinary citizens, have caused intense concern and anger, both in the prosecuting authorities and in public opinion.
Update - New data in the brutal murder of Stavros Demosthenous in Limassol come to light during today's proceedings before the Limassol District Court where the 51-year-old suspect as well as the 44-year-old former footballer were taken. A key link in the case seems to be a 51-year-old man of Greek origin, after he was seen with a stolen car near the victim's house, a few days before the crime. In the meantime, two more arrest warrants have been issued.
At the same time, the investigators of the Limassol Police Department again took the 44-year-old, former football player and owner of the motorcycle allegedly used in the escape of the perpetrators, to the Court, requesting the renewal of his detention.
According to what the investigator of the case reported, on October 5, 2025, i.e. twelve days before the murder, the theft of his car, a Mitsubishi Colt brand, which was parked near the Agios Antonios area, was reported to the Limassol Police Department by a priest.
As the examiner testified, three days before the murder, members of the Police located, after information, in an open area outside the Sfalagiotissa cemetery in the area of Agios Athanasios Limassol, the stolen vehicle.
Members of the Limassol Police Department went to the scene, where they carried out examinations and it was found that it was the stolen car. During the search, two jerry cans with flammable material were found inside the vehicle.
It should be noted that from the examinations carried out on the stolen Colt, it was found that it had registration plates of another vehicle, but of the same brand.
According to the investigator, the place where the vehicle was found is near the victim's house, while the area is recorded by closed surveillance circuits.
From the Police examinations and the evaluation of testimonies, it emerged that the stolen vehicle is connected to the white van used by the perpetrators. From the security camera footage near the victim's home, persons are recorded moving on mopeds in the area from October 9 to 14.
On October 14, the same persons appear boarding the stolen vehicles and following a specific route in the direction of the victim's house, as well as to the place where the murder was committed. These findings, according to the Police, reinforce the scenario that the murder plan had already been put in place and that the movements of the perpetrators were part of the organized plan executed on October 17.
It should be noted that the two jerry cans with the flammable material found in the stolen COLT would have been used to set fire to the car to destroy evidence after the murder just as it happened on the day of the murder.
Testimony and DNA burned the 51-year-old
According to the investigator, on October 24, 2025, the Police secured information that brought the 51-year-old to the fore as the main suspect in the theft. A court warrant was immediately issued and the next day, October 25, the man was arrested.
After his arrest, he was taken to the offices of the Limassol Police Department, where he denied any involvement. Upon receiving a written testimony, investigators took DNA samples, which were sent to the Institute of Neurology and Genetics for examination.
The results were revealing. The suspect's genetic material was identified with a sample found on the lid of one of the two jerry cans with flammable material, which had been found inside the stolen vehicle belonging to a priest.
This development led to the issuance of a new arrest warrant on October 26, with the 51-year-old insisting that he is not involved in his case, making various allegations.
Two new arrest warrants
So far, six people are in custody, including the two suspects, while two more people are wanted on court warrants. Investigators have already received 68 statements and conducted 20 investigations, which have resulted in dozens of scientifically evaluated evidence.
At the same time, material from dozens of security cameras has been analyzed, while about 90 new testimonies are still expected from people close to the victim and the suspects, as the puzzle of the case slowly begins to be completed.
The process is still ongoing after the lawyers of the two suspects object to the detention of their clients.

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca imposed on Monday morning (27/10) an 11-year prison sentence on a 56-year-old man from Romania, who last June attempted to import, through Larnaca airport, 16 kilograms of cannabis. The defendant was found guilty after his own admission to charges of importing drugs for the purpose of supplying other people.
The 56-year-old arrived on June 24 at Larnaca Airport from Barcelona, via Belgrade. In cooperation with the Customs Authorities, members of YKAN searched his luggage. In them, 2 nylon packages containing cannabis, weighing 16 kg, were found.
In his testimony, he had stated that he agreed to transport the large amount of drugs to Cyprus because he was facing financial problems and serious problems with his health and that he would receive an amount of €1000-€1,400. He also said that he would receive instructions to deliver the drugs when he arrived in the Republic of Cyprus. He also claimed that his suitcase was given to him in Barcelona by an unknown person, who arranged his stay in an apartment.
Imposing the sentence, the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca referred to the frequency with which such serious drug cases now come before it, as well as the need to impose dissuasive penalties. He also noted that the 56-year-old's purpose was to secure a profit.
The case was handled on behalf of the Prosecution by Antonis Antoniou.

A new incident with extracurricular students took place in a High School of Aglantzia on Monday morning (27/11).
According to statements by the president of the school's Parents' Association, Andreas Pieridis, on Sigma's show "Mesimeri kai kati", the extracurriculars tried to enter the school to attack students.
However, as he mentioned, due to the police patrols, they were prevented from entering the school and the authorities handcuffed them.
Specifically, according to the Police, a patrol went to the area and located the two persons. They were then taken to the local police station and are being handled on the basis of the relevant Legislation concerning children in conflict with the Law, since they are minors.
However, the Police clarified that, from the examinations so far, these two persons do not seem to be related to last Saturday's incident, which took place at the same school.
A revealing video of the new incident was presented by Omega's show "Update Now".
It is recalled that last Saturday (25/10) a student was attacked unprovoked at a school event.
According to information from Filenews, the student was hit by a gang of extracurricular Syrians who are known to the authorities.
This was followed by the attack on the student's father who rushed to the school to pick up his child.
The minor was taken to the hospital and has a fractured nose and head.
It is noted that Mr. Pierides stated that there are two or three groups in the area which are outside the school every afternoon and harass children.

The civilian case against two of the five Greek Cypriots who were arrested in the north in July will continue next month, after the latest hearing was held in the north’s Trikomo district court on Monday.
The pair stand accused of privacy violations, with the case set to resume on November 3.
The remaining three Greek Cypriots had earlier faced charges of trespassing and breaching the peace, but those charges were dropped on October 1.
Meanwhile, all five remain on trial at a military court in northern Nicosia, where one has been charged with illegally entering the north when the five crossed into the north via the Strovilia crossing point, near Famagusta, on July 19, while the other four stand accused of aiding and abetting the illegal entry.
The five Greek Cypriots deny the charges, with the verdict in that case expected on November 7.
All five remain on bail, with the north’s supreme court having found in two separate cases that earlier remand orders against them had been handed down illegally.
