Almost every year, especially before major holidays, begging is organized in Cyprus by professionals. They are mainly transported from Greece and every day they move to another area.

They are mainly set up outside department stores and supermarkets or even at traffic lights and try to deceive citizens with various fake stories.

Citizens on social media complain that not even the store managers themselves are informed about any "charity" campaign carried out inside or outside their stores.

The Paphos District Court issued an eight-day detention order on Wednesday against a 46-year-old man from Georgia to facilitate the investigation into an ongoing case of robbery, stabbing, and the attack and injury of a 24-year-old man with a knife. According to the Police, shortly before 5.45 pm on Tuesday afternoon, a private security guard at a Paphos supermarket noticed a 46-year-old man inside the supermarket, who resembled a person who had stolen alcoholic beverages from the supermarket in the previous days. He also noticed that the man had possibly hidden an object that looked like a bottle in his clothes.

After the 46-year-old went to the cashier and paid for the products he purchased, he headed towards the exit, where the private security guard, along with a 24-year-old supermarket employee, stopped him. After being told the reason for his arrest, the 46-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 24-year-old in the right leg, according to the evidence under review.

Police officers rushed to the scene for examination, and during investigations in the area, at around 6.15 pm on Tuesday, they spotted the 46-year-old leaving the parking lot of a second store, driving a car. The police officers stopped him for a check and, after finding a folding knife in his possession, proceeded to arrest him for a flagrant offense. During a search of the 46-year-old's car, police officers found supermarket products, as well as a piece of paper with a quantity of white crystalline substance, similar to methamphetamine, and a glass drug container with a burnt substance. The 46-year-old underwent a preliminary drug test, with a positive result. The 24-year-old injured man was taken to Paphos General Hospital, where it was found that he had sustained a contusion to his right leg.

Half of Limassol seems to have been ravaged by a 36-year-old homeless man, who decided to turn the uninhabited house into his "home" and a warehouse for stolen items. From electric bicycles, scooters, kangos to collectible weapons, he was in his possession. However, the most unlikely thing in the story is not the stolen goods, but that he had the audacity to call the authorities and report that some people entered the house and stole his personal belongings.

No, this is not a comedy scenario, but a real case with the 36-year-old Greek Cypriot being brought before the Limassol Court today for the issuance of a detention order. His lawyer, Ioanna Adamou, did not raise an objection and her client was detained for four days.

The case unfolded thanks to the owner of the house, who complained last Tuesday to the Police that she was informed by neighbours that someone was living illegally in her uninhabited house. Members of the Police went to the residence and found that someone had entered illegally and was living there, while there were various objects.

The area was photographed by members of the Dactyloscopy Branch and the objects were transferred to the Limassol Police Department. However, the case did not require many examinations, as yesterday the 36-year-old suspect contacted the Limassol Police Department to complain that some people broke into the residence where he lives and stole his personal belongings. The 36-year-old was called by the members of the Police to report to the Central Police, which he did.

He verbally claimed that he is homeless and entered the residence through the kitchen to live there. Asked about the kango that was found to be stolen, he said that he bought it for €50 from a foreigner, while for the rest of the items he did not give a clear explanation. During the written interrogation, he refused to answer the questions and refused to sign his testimony. When an arrest warrant was issued against him and his attention was drawn to the law, then he realized that he had no choice and replied: "I was wrong, I stole them."

Various closed-circuit surveillance devices are expected to be received for the case, while the collectible weapon of English origin, brand "1850 TOWER FIREGUN" is expected to be sent to the Police Headquarters for ballistic control.
