Update - New data in the case of attempted murder and arson of a car rental company in Pyla on August 14, for which 5 Syrians are on trial, including a 44-year-old convict in the central prison.
For that case, a 29-year-old Greek Cypriot was also arrested on September 14, who allegedly had a telephone conversation with the convict shortly before committing the criminal act. Along the way and after being placed in five-day detention, he was released pending the tests, among other things, on his mobile phone.
Almost a month later, the Police arrested him again, after videos from the closed circuit of the Larnaca Court were found on his mobile phone, which record the arrests of specific suspects, including the convict. The Larnaca Police Department also proceeded to arrest a 29-year-old private guard at the Larnaca Court, who is alleged to be the person who sent him the videos in question.
So far, it remains unknown what the motives of the two were, who were brought before the Larnaca District Court. The lawyer of the 29-year-old, Christoforos Demetriou, had raised a pre-trial issue since, as he claimed, the detention process began after 24 hours had passed since her arrest and therefore she should be released.
The court, after a half-hour break, ruled that she should be released after the suspect was arrested at 11:25 yesterday and brought before him today at 11:28. The process continues for the second suspect after his lawyer objected to his detention and cross-examines the investigator of the case.
Previously, the investigator of the case stated that three videos were found on the 29-year-old's mobile phone that were taken in real time from the closed circuit surveillance of the Larnaca court, which is controlled by a private company. One video, lasting 5 seconds, was taken on August 28 by the camera in the basement of the Larnaca court and depicted the transfer to the detention center of the 44-year-old convict who is alleged to be the principal of the criminal act of Pyla.
The other two videos of 18 and 13 seconds respectively were taken on September 10 and depict the first transferring another detainee to the court's detention center and the second transferring him to a courtroom.
The two are suspected of conspiracy to commit a felony and misdemeanor and offenses in violation of the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.
As it was told in court, while the suspect was being transferred to the detention center, she started her mobile phone remotely and it is unknown if any files were deleted. He was arrested, as stated before the court, because he allegedly worked, according to a diary kept, during the hours when the videos were sent. She allegedly verbally stated that she might not work and that the person in charge might have signed on her behalf.
It is recalled that the 29-year-old was convicted of a high-profile case and then entered the witness protection program. In the process, two people from his personal environment were murdered in cold blood, while he was judged to be an unreliable witness.
As for the case of Pyla, which has the stamp of organized crime, it is set for October 29 before the Larnaca District Court, so that the 5 Syrians can answer whether or not they plead guilty to the serious charges they face.
