A NEW ERA IN URGENT CARE - THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF RAPID CIRCULATION CLINICS HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

 Filenews 10 October 2025

The Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, announced the institutionalization of the Rapid Patient Distribution Clinics (ITDA), after their successful pilot implementation in the General Hospitals of Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca and Famagusta.

The Minister of Health explained that this is a targeted initiative, which has already yielded tangible and measurable results in decongesting the A&E and reducing waiting times for low-severity cases.

According to Mr. Damianos, from the launch of the first ITDA until today, a total of over 6,500 patients have been served, which highlights the effectiveness and necessity of the service.

In particular:

In Nicosia, about 1 in 6 visitors to A&E use this service.

At Paphos Hospital, almost 4 out of 10 patients are served through ITDA.

In Larnaca, where ITDA operates from Friday to Sunday, more than 36% of low-priority cases have been served to date, directly.

In Famagusta, during the summer season, 40% of low-priority cases were served immediately.

Mr. Damianos concluded that these Clinics ensure that citizens who come with mild cases receive rapid service, while at the same time strengthening the ability of the A&E to focus on high priority cases.

He also stressed that today's institutionalization is not the end, but the beginning of a new era in emergency health care, and that efforts will continue to further upgrade the services offered for the benefit of citizens.
