WORLD VULTURE AWARENESS DAY - IMAGES FROM FEEDER STATION BY DEPARTMENT OF FORESTS

 Filenews 7 September 2025

On the occasion of World Vulture Awareness Day, the Department of Forestry notes in a post that for more than three decades it has been operating the vulture feeder in Agios Ioannis Paphos, supporting the effort exclusively with its own resources, personnel and budget.

As noted in a relevant post by the Department of Forests, this action began in 1992 and continues uninterruptedly to this day.

The Department emphasizes that the feeder is a crucial tool for the conservation and rescue of the vulture in Cyprus, but also for the general protection of biodiversity and ecological balance. He also recalls that he was the first body to take actions to save the vulture 33 years ago, studying the biology and ecology of the species on the island and recording historical data as well as breeding areas, perching, feeding and water abstraction.

According to the Department, this action continues with dedication and consistency to ensure that the vulture, along with other rare predators, will continue to adorn the Cypriot forests and sky.

Here are impressive footage from the feeder, published by the Department of Forests, where the entire population of vultures living today in Cyprus is recorded, both imported birds and Cypriot ones, feeding on a goat carcass placed by the Department in Paphos.
