Filenews 18 September 2025
Toyota Cyprus continues with unabated intensity the TAKATA recall campaign for used Toyota vehicles from third countries without European Type Approval (EU-WVTA). These vehicles were not imported into Cyprus by our Company, nor did it sell them in Cyprus. Therefore, this initiative remains exclusively voluntary, with the aim of maximum protection of holders and ensuring road safety.
To date, progress has been made on the above used vehicles without European type approval. These results reflect our firm commitment to safety and responsibility, as well as the significant investments we have made in personnel, infrastructure and spare parts procurement, without having any actual or legal liability.
The special Emergency Center we installed at the Nicosia State Fair will remain in operation until November 28, 2025. Its operation is strictly temporary, as the Government of Cyprus has set a final time limit for the completion of the TAKATA recall on October 3, 2025.
We already have a large number of airbags, many of which were specially made in Japan. In fact, several spare parts were sent by air to ensure their timely arrival and immediate service to the holders.
However, if the available spare parts are not used in time, i.e. by the deadline, part of the stock may be returned to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to be sold in other countries or for other vehicles. In this case, it cannot guarantee that there will be availability for the same vehicles again, especially for older ones.
In order to respond in the best possible way, we have hired specialized technicians from abroad on a temporary basis, in order to enhance the speed and quality of recalls. This allows us to schedule appointments within a few days and complete the replacement without delays.
We urge owners of vehicles that may be affected to plan for their airbag replacement immediately. The delay can lead to inconvenience, potential additional costs, or even inability to service if available parts are returned.
At the same time, we point out that some third-country websites, even if viewed through the website of the Department of Road Transport, may not have fully up-to-date information. To avoid misunderstandings, we recommend that holders only trust the official notices sent by the Department of Road Transport and by Toyota Cyprus, as well as the VIN numbers posted on the official website of the Department (https://www.gov.cy/mtcw/toyota/)
