The Ministry of Defence announced the recruitment of Contract Soldiers (SYOP) in the National Guard to fill vacancies, in order of priority from the Final List of SYOP candidates, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, on 29.08.2025.

The forthcoming recruitment of SYOP, to fill the vacancies and cover the needs of the National Guard, at this stage, concerns the Guards of Nicosia, Kliros, Nisos – Kornos, Kakopetria and Larnaca.

Candidates for the recruitment of SYOP will be invited by email and mobile message (SMS), which will contain all the relevant information for their invitation to the Health Examination and for the signing of the Employment Contract, which was published with the announcement of the positions in the Official Gazette of the Republic, on 09.05.2025.

For candidates who are National Guardsmen and fulfil their military service, their position will be preserved until the date of their discharge, provided that they will be deemed suitable for the Health Examination. Therefore, they will not receive an email at this stage but later.

In the event that a candidate of the SYOP attends the Health Examination, to which he/she will be called by e-mail (email) and a mobile message (sms), which will take place before the signing of the relevant Contract, without all the required medical examinations/certificates, or during the Health Examination he/she is not deemed suitable as fit for service in the National Guard, with a capacity of the first or second category (I/1 or I/2) or fails to appear for a Health Examination, will be deleted from the Final List and his place will be offered to the next candidate in the Final List.

When presenting to the Health Committee, candidates must present the health examinations mentioned in the email sent to them, together with the attached Health Examination Form, duly completed. It is noted that these health examinations are not covered under the GHS, as they are not health care services.

It is emphasized that candidates who will be deemed suitable I1 or I2 during the Health Examination and will come to sign the Employment Contract must necessarily present the following:

(a) Identity Card and a photocopy
(b) Original Certificate of White Criminal Record, which must be recent (not more than 2 months)
(c) Diploma or Certificate of Dismissal from a recognized Secondary School (original to be shown, as well as a certified copy to be submitted to the Ministry of Defence)
(d) Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree or Diploma (original to be shown, as well as a certified copy to be submitted to the Ministry of Defence)
(e) Completed form "Payroll of State Employees – Personal Data of Newly Appointed Employee" (attached)
(f) Authorization for payment of salary by bank transfer (attached)
(g) Completed declaration for claiming tax deductions (attached)
(h) Photocopy of proof of social security number (in case someone does not have a social insurance number, he/she must take all necessary actions to the Ministry of Labour to obtain it).
(i) Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificate of Children in case applicable:                                               
(j) Original Certificate, in accordance with Article 22(6) of the Law on the Reception and Combating of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography (L.91(I)/2014), issued by the Chief of Police, certifying that they are not included in the Archive kept pursuant to the provisions of the said article; and                                                                                                                                               (k) Stamps (by post) worth €17.5, i.e. one of €10, three of €2, one of €1 and one of €0.50.


In the event that the candidates who have been invited do not respond to the invitation to sign the Employment Contractthe Ministry of Defense will proceed with the recruitment of the next candidate, based on the ranking order in the Final List.
