 Pafos Live 6 September 2025

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, inaugurated three projects tonight in Polis Chrysochous.

The Town Hall Square, the sea museum in Latsi and the reptile park in the Neo Chorio district.

All three projects upgrading the area were co-financed by the EU, the Republic of Cyprus and the local municipality.

The president of the republic announced last night that the state is proceeding with the creation of a new hospital in the region. It will be erected on the site of the old camp.

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, gave the categorical assurance that the four-lane Polis Chrysochous-Paphos motorway will proceed normally, on the basis of what he announced last December, stressing at the same time that he will never allow the state to become a prisoner of problematic contracts and opaque procedures.

In his address at the inauguration of development projects in Polis Chrysochous, the President of the Republic referred to the Polis Chrysochous – Paphos motorway, and reaffirmed the assurance he gave last December during his previous visit to the area, that the Government, in the context of its strategy for upgrading road infrastructure and improving connectivity in the Paphos district, has decided and will proceed with the construction of a four-lane highway. As he said, the plan also includes the creation of additional access through Mesogi, in addition to the existing one from Agia Marinouda. "It will be a normal highway that will substantially contribute to the utilization of the unlimited possibilities of this beautiful area. We do not approach the project as an accounting act but as a catalyst for the development trajectory of the region," he added.

As the President said, the project is part of the completion planning until 2030–2032, depending on the technical challenges that may arise during the implementation of the connection with the Mediterranean. On the basis of my announcement, the President of the Republic continued, the Council of Ministers, last month, approved the call for tenders for the construction of the First Phase of the motorway that will connect Paphos with Polis Chrysochous.

The tender for the Second Phase of the project, which concerns the section from Polis to Stroumbi, is expected to take place within the first quarter of 2026. "These are the Government's clear timetables and I would like to inform you today with absolute transparency about how we are proceeding. Honestly and honestly," he said.

Termination of problematic contracts

Continuing, the President of the Republic asked for everyone to understand that the government "has the political courage and determination to improve and, if necessary, terminate problematic contracts for projects that have been stuck due to additional financial burdens, unjustified demands and unrealistic timetables".

Nikos Christodoulides said that with the sole aim of the public interest and with a commitment to the prudent management of public coffers and taxpayers' money, the government, always within the framework of legality and transparency, is working to safeguard the rights of the Republic of Cyprus. "The state honours its signature and keeps its commitments and demands the same consistency from its partners. I will never allow the State to become a prisoner of problematic contracts and opaque procedures. I am accountable only to the Cypriot people," he concluded.
