Pharmacists are making a comeback, claiming, once again, the right to vaccinate citizens in their pharmacies.
The Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association even reiterates its request, on the occasion of the meeting of European pharmacists that is underway in Brussels (with the subject of discussing the services that pharmacists can offer), with the president of the Association, Plutarchos Georgiadis, emphasizing, speaking to "F", that "we Cypriot pharmacists did not think of it on our own, but it is a practice that has been applied for years in other European states."
"The number and dispersion of pharmacies in Cyprus," he added, "allows neighbourhood pharmacies to play a core role in prevention but also the role of a protagonist in primary health care."
Seasonal vaccination from pharmacies, said Mr. Georgiadis, "will offer almost full compliance to the public regarding seasonal flu, resulting in the discharge of the General Health System and personal doctors.
Pharmacists have the experience and the appropriate education and training to provide the vaccination service through the neighbourhood pharmacy."
The Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association, he said, "is ready for discussion, regarding this issue, with all the competent Authorities, so that the pharmacies in the neighbourhood can offer this service. It is a practice that has been followed in most European countries for many years and it is imperative that this discussion finally begins in Cyprus as well."
