The 23rd Pafos Aphrodite Festival came to an impressive conclusion on Saturday evening, during which more than four thousand spectators enjoyed the emblematic opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet from the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre, with the collaboration of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra for the second consecutive year.
However, the news that comes out of this year's event is the announcement by the president of the opera organizer, Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedonos, that for the first time in these 24 years of its conduct, the opera of 2026 will not be held on the first weekend of the month of September, but in June.
And this, he announced, in order to be held in the middle of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU, giving the mark of the city's cultural avant-garde and the opportunity to Europeans, who will have their attention turned to Cyprus at that time, to see an institution that has long since taken on pan-European dimensions at the level of culture.
Tickets for this year's two performances, which were given on Friday and Saturday evenings, were completely sold out, which confirms the full recovery of the institution and the dynamics it has developed.
