The project of the terminal in Vassiliko must proceed "in the way and at the pace it should", so that Cyprus can soon acquire natural gas, strengthen the competitiveness of the economy and deal with the high price of electricity, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos said on Friday.
The Minister noted that the Government intends to renew after the end of 2025 the support measures for energy costs, which include reductions in VAT on electricity, subsidies to households and small businesses, as well as zero VAT on basic goods.
Referring to the possibility of returning €67 million to the European Commission for the Vasilikos terminal, he underlined that this amount "is not the big problem", as the priority is the completion of the project.
Asked about the possible effects of the full performance of the Automatic Indexation (ATA), he stressed that the Ministry of Finance is proactively studying all scenarios, seeking a reasonable conclusion that will satisfy both employees and businesses.
