E-mails, supposedly for a tax refund, which aim to intercept the bank account details of unsuspecting citizens or other personal information, with the logo of the Government Portal "GOV.CY", warns the Tax Department and urges those who receive such or similar messages to ignore them.
Specifically, as stated in an announcement by the Department, "unsolicited emails are circulating with the logo of the Government Portal "GOV.CY", which urge unsuspecting citizens to scan a QR code (QR code), in order to receive a refund of the Tax".
They also cite as a contact email address, it is added, "an incorrect email address with reference to the new TAX FOR ALL (TFA) Computer System".
The Tax Department draws the attention of citizens that "these types of messages are intended to steal bank account details of unsuspecting citizens or other personal information, and the Tax Department urges those who receive such or similar messages to ignore them".
It is pointed out that Value Added Tax (VAT), Income Tax, etc. refunds are made only by transfer to a bank account, the IBAN of which is declared by the taxpayer to the Department, with secure procedures.
It is also emphasized that "any communication of the Tax Department with taxpayers via e-mails is carried out only through e-mail addresses, which end in: @tax.mof.gov.cy".
