At sea, on the French Navy Frigate LANGUEDOC, the final phase and the Distinguished Visitors Day (DV – Day) of the annual quadrilateral aeronautical exercise of Cyprus, Greece, France and Italy “EUNOMIA-6/2025” took place on Thursday, in the presence of the Minister of Defense Vassilis Palmas, among other officials, in the context of which scenarios were examined in the maritime and airspace (FIR of Nicosia and Athens) of the Eastern Mediterranean and in the land area of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to an announcement by the General Staff of the Navy, the general coordination in the design and organization of the exercise was undertaken for 2025 by the Republic of Cyprus in cooperation with France.
“The exercise scenarios included search and rescue operations, countering asymmetric threats and cyberattacks, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine operations, conducting tactical advanced maneuver and communications exercises, low-level flights and simulated attacks on targets by fighter aircraft, while surface fire was also carried out,” it is reported. However, what needs to be done in the next joint exercise, whatever it is called, is to issue a timely announcement on the low flight of warplanes over populated areas. Every day, through the news and Social Media, we hear and see many different things and it is logical for citizens, if they are completely unsuspecting, to be frightened when suddenly a warplane “tear” the sky above their heads. Especially in the area we are in and especially with all those we have to deal with… And so that no well-wisher says that the Ministry of Defense issued an announcement, perhaps a more thorough information practice is needed, either with a special announcement, as the Civil Defense does for sirens (let alone that they don't sound everywhere anymore) or through an announcement that ultimately reaches the public and not just stays on a Ministry website and whoever reads it…
