e-kalathi is a useful tool that clearly presents the prices of commodities in Cypriot supermarkets. The Cyprus Consumers Association used the data provided by the platform, conducting two surveys. On August 4, it evaluated the data collected between July 29 and August 3, proceeding to analyze and publish the results of the first survey.
Of the 478 product codes in the system, 267 common items were identified in five large supermarket chains (Sklavenitis, Athienitis, Ioannidis, Metro and Alpha Mega). The comparison of their total costs highlighted Sklavenitis as the most economical option with a total cost of €926.52, followed by Athienitis (€979.49), Ioannidis (€1,025.85), Metro (€1,047.76 ) and Alpha Mega (€1,049.87).
The price trend also stabilized in the association's most recent survey on August 31, consolidating the belief that Sklavenitis is the cheapest supermarket on the island. Specifically, in the price comparison made on 260 common products, the research showed that the cheapest supermarket for these products was Sklavenitis, with a total cost of €893.38, followed by Athienitis with €951.84, Metro with €985.47, Ioannidis supermarket with €997.06 and Alpha Mega with €997.90.
The Cyprus Consumers Association emphasizes that the conclusions are based solely on the prices recorded in e-kalathi, without any external interference. At the same time, it declares its commitment to continue the systematic monitoring and analysis of data, with the aim of providing consumers with valid information and strengthening healthy competition in the food market.
Through the results of the two surveys, you can show that Sklavenitis supermarkets, being the most economical, stand by the consumer, confirming their slogan "as cheap as anywhere else".
